Arsenal fans had a lot to say about Kieran Tierney after his Crystal Palace performance and they’re spot on

With Myles Lewis-Skelly in need of a rest, Mikel Arteta turned to Kieran Tierney for Arsenal during their 3-2 win over Crystal Palace.

Tierney played 68 minutes or so at the Emirates Stadium before the Arsenal defender eventually needed replacing.

After his marauding performance down the left, the Scotland international looked fatigued and did then swap places with Lewis-Skelly who was waiting on the bench.

Arteta admitted his Tierney mistake in recent weeks, and he stuck to his word when allowing the full-back to overlap Leandro Trossard against Palace, rather than invert into midfield.

Tierney provided an excellent ball into the box to set up Raheem Sterling, who looked like a player who hasn’t been playing too often.

Arsenal fans think Mikel Arteta needs to use Kieran Tierney more often

That being said, Arsenal fans were very vocal about Tierney on X during and after the game, a throwback performance which many enjoyed.

Tierney is unlikely to ever be a regular starter for Arteta again, but he certainly proved that he still has something to offer.

After watching the defender hobble off in the second half, one fan wrote: “Tierney was really making his name shine again, hopefully [his injury] is nothing serious.”

As mentioned, it did seem as if Tierney was just fatigued as he hit the Emirates deck at the request of Arteta, so the Gunners could ready their change.

Another fan said: “Is it bad that our best player today, Tierney, hasn’t played for us in years… and still looks like the only player that plays for the badge.”

It’s worth noting that this particular post came prior to Gabriel Jesus’ brilliant hat-trick.

Referencing Arsenal’s injury pile up, another supporter asked why Arteta hasn’t been playing the Scot more often.

They wrote: “If we’ve been shot at left back, I am not sure why Tierney can’t make the team. He has had a decent game.”

Kieran Tierney could still earn Arsenal vital funds in January

Regardless of his performance against Palace, Tierney is still likely to leave Arsenal – an update that Arsenal Insider recently provided.

Until the January transfer window, which could see Tierney return to boyhood club Celtic, it’s clear that the defender could still be of use to Arteta.

Perhaps not many games will call for a traditional overlapping left-back, but if Jurrien Timber is on the right, it does provide a nice balance.

Either way, it’s a positive option for Arteta to have, who has been much more willing to experiment this season.

An excellent night for the Gunners, and one that reminded everyone about Tierney’s quality.
