Chelsea icon Joe Cole shares expectation for Arsenal wonderkids Ethan Nwaneri and Myles Lewis-Skelly

Myles-Lewis Skelly and Ethan Nwaneri have both been able to make an impression at Arsenal this season. 

The Hale End academy duo both featured in the 3-0 win over Monaco on Wednesday night, as Myles Lewis-Skelly was handed his first ever Champions League start and Ethan Nwaneri was granted a cameo from the bench. 

Mikel Arteta lauded Lewis-Skelly for his performance, as the 18-year-old did an admirable job of filling in at left-back in the midst of an injury crisis.

Meanwhile, Nwaneri became Arsenal’s youngest Premier League scorer since Cesc Fabregas earlier this season, with his maiden strike against Nottingham Forest.

The teenage duo have huge potential, and will be eager for further opportunities to shine on the biggest stages.

Joe Cole expects Myles Lewis-Skelly and Ethan Nwaneri to make Arsenal impact this season

Former Chelsea star Joe Cole certainly expects the pair to be given such chances. 

Arteta has had a lot of injuries to deal with recently, which has tested the strength in depth of his Arsenal squad. 

Speaking on TNT Sports after the Gunners’ Champions League triumph over Monaco, Cole predicted that both Lewis-Skelly and Nwaneri will continue to become more trusted and influential in North London as the campaign goes on.

He said: “They’ve got players coming through as well now, Arsenal, which I think they may need. I still feel their squad is a tad slim. Raheem Sterling has fallen out of favour. So I feel that these young lads will have a say.”

Will Lewis-Skelly or Nwaneri start vs Everton?

In taking the youngster off around the hour mark on Wednesday, Arteta hinted that Lewis-Skelly could be in line to face Everton.

Certainly, he deserves the opportunity to keep his place in the side following his exploits in the continental competition. 

With Mikel Merino back in the Arsenal starting XI alongside Martin Odegaard, though, Nwaneri is less likely to get a starting spot against the Toffees. 

However, such a call up can’t be far away for the 17-year-old now.
