Forget Ben White, another Arsenal player had a true stinker vs Atletico Madrid

Arsenal faced Atletico Madrid on Wednesday evening, and, all in all, this wasn’t a great game.

The north London side raced into a first-half lead, going in 1-0 up at the break.

However, in the second-half, Arsenal were dominated by the hosts, and they will have to be much better at the Emirates if they want to win the Champions League.

Despite the result, fingers were being pointed at the under-performers after this game, and one player who took a lot of flak was Ben White.

White was unlucky when giving away the penalty that led to Atletico Madrid’s equaliser, but, overall his performance wasn’t good enough.

That said, there was another Arsenal player on the night who just wasn’t at it either.

Who was Arsenal’s worst performer against Atletico Madrid?

Gabriel Martinelli had a stinker vs Atletico Madrid

Gabriel Martinelli has been almost Mr Champions League for Arsenal this season.

Indeed, the Brazilian has turned up when it matters for Arsenal in Europe this season, but that wasn’t the case in Madrid.

The stats tell you all you need to know about Martinelli’s performance here.

Martinelli was dispossessed more often than he shot in this game, and, for an attacking player, that isn’t good enough.

The winger didn’t complete a single dribble either, and as a player who is known for his ability running with the ball, there’s no excuse for not turning up in a game like this.

Ben White will be criticised after this match, but, make no mistake about it, Martinelli wasn’t good enough either.

There’s a reason the likes of Anthony Gordon are being linked to Arsenal, the Gunners need more impetus down the left flank, and the only way to get that is by investing this summer.

Martinelli has seriously petered out in the second-half of this season, and he needs to find a way to rediscover his best form.
