Arsenal will be desperate to get revenge on Manchester United following the FA Cup defeat to the Red Devils in January.

The first month of 2025 was a testing one for Arsenal, who were dumped out of the FA Cup by Man United.

Mikel Arteta’s side were punished at the Emirates as Kai Havertz endured a nightmare against United, who went on to win the tie on penalties.

Despite the struggles that Ruben Amorim has waded through so far at Old Trafford, the Portuguese knows how to hurt the Gunners, sporting a 50% win rate against Arsenal in his managerial career.

Ruben Amorim spotted one Arsenal weakness

As mentioned, the last time the two sides met was in January, a game that Amorim came out on top in.

After United’s win in the FA Cup, the manager praised how his squad maintained their level against Arsenal, with the same not able to be said of the Gunners.

Speaking to the media following the result, Amorim questioned the mentality of the Arsenal squad, identifying that the belief his players had was the driving force behind the result.

“We had the feeling that everything in the end would be okay – I felt that since the beginning of the second half.

“Even after the penalty, I felt that and I think the Arsenal team maybe felt that today wouldn’t be their day. But I’m really pleased for the way we controlled the game without the ball, and with set-pieces, we were really strong.”

Amorim commented on Martin Odegaard’s penalty miss being a measuring tool for how much Arsenal wanted to win the game, noticing the missing belief in Arteta’s players.

The United manager’s assessment can’t be argued as his side came out on top that day, giving Arteta additional fuel to address his players before Sunday’s trip to Old Trafford.

Arsenal’s record at Old Trafford

Heading to Old Trafford is a daunting task for Arsenal, despite the matter that United aren’t the club they used to be.

Out of 220 meetings between the two clubs, Arsenal have won 79 games overall, a figure that drops dramtically when focusing solely on clashes away from home.

Arsenal’s record at Old Trafford
107 played
19 wins
27 draws
61 losses
17% win rate

With a win percentage of just 17% at Old Trafford, Arteta must look to not only motivate his squad for the fixture but, to change the narrative of the Gunners’ trips to Manchester.

If Arsenal are to win at Old Trafford on Sunday, it would represent the first time in 46 years that the North Londoners have won back to back games at the ground, which is quite something.

Arteta’s players left Amorim questioning the desire to win the last time the two clubs met, giving the visitors added inspiration ahead of their must-win visit.
