Arsenal have been knocked out of the FA Cup at the third round stage for the second consecutive season following a penalty shoot-out defeat to rivals Manchester United.

Despite United playing for more than an hour with ten men following Diogo Dalot’s red card, Arsenal could not break down a stubborn defence and missed a host of glaring opportunities to progress in the tie.

With 70% possession and 26 goal attempts at the Emirates Stadium, the Gunners will certainly walk away from the game with regrets that there were not able to progress in the FA Cup – a competition they have won more than any other side.

One player particularly guilty of missing some glorious chances was striker Kai Havertz and after scrolling through X after the game, it is clear that supporters may have turned on the German international.

Arsenal fans scathing reviews of Kai Havertz after FA Cup defeat to Manchester United

Arsenal fans have been calling for a new striker for some time and Arsenal have contacted Marcus Rashford over a potential January move.

Havertz struggled to convert chances against United and missed the decisive penalty to send Arsenal crashing out and fans are beginning to lose patience with the forward.

One fan wrote: “Kai Havertz has to be the worst footballer I have ever seen in my whole life.”

Another fan claimed that they now understand why Arsenal seemed to only attack with Bukayo Saka as Havertz misses all his chances.

They said: “I now understand why we only attack with Saka. Havertz missed all his chances and still missed his penalty in the shoot out.”

Manchester United fans even took the opportunity to poke fun at Havertz and Arsenal, thanking Havertz for his performance against their side.

Celebrity Arsenal fan Piers Morgan was also amongst the critics of Havertz calling the performance ‘pathetic,’ questioning how the Gunners managed to lose against ten men and claiming Arsenal have zero chance of a trophy with Havertz as the striker.

Kai Havertz shouldn’t be blamed for Arsenal’s defeat to Manchester United

Kai Havertz was not the only player who missed chances for Arsenal to progress with captain Martin Odegaard only scored a 3/10 in the Arsenal player ratings following his missed penalty in normal time.

Declan Rice also should have scored a header late on in normal time before Leandro Trossard allowed United defender Matthijs De Ligt to clear off the line when he had no right to beat the Belgian to the ball.

Arsenal have had a damaging week in front of goal that could have cost them two possible trophies in both domestic cups.

With just 18 days of the January transfer window left, now is the time to freshen up Arteta’s options to ensure that the Gunners can go full tilt at the Premier League and Champions League.
