Arsenal icon Thierry Henry has suggested that Mikel Arteta is owed a statue if he wins the Champions League with the club.

The Gunners have made it to the semi-finals of the Champions League for just the third time in their history, putting up a battle to get there.

Arsenal’s win over Real Madrid has made many believe that the north London outfit truly can make it happen and land a trophy they haven’t yet acquired.

If he were to do it, Mikel Arteta would manage something that not even Arsene Wenger could do, though the former Arsenal boss did make it to the final in 2006.

To get there, Arsenal have to get past PSG, but many are already daring to dream about the seemingly impossible.

Thierry Henry says Mikel Arteta would get a statue for winning the Champions League at Arsenal

With Arsenal in the final four of the Champions League, there is a belief that they can truly make it all the way.

Arsene Wenger revealed that his biggest regret at Arsenal is not winning the competition, something Mikel Arteta won’t want to be left with when he does eventually leave.

Speaking ahead of the clash with PSG, Arsenal legend Thierry Henry claimed that if Arteta was to win it, he’d land himself a statue at the Emirates Stadium.

He said on CBS Sports: “At one point he [Arteta] is going to have to come with a trophy soon, any. I’m not talking about obviously the last one that we can win this year, the Champions League.

“If he comes with the Champions League, it’s never been done, so he has a statue right there, right from the start.”

It’s clear just how important the Champions League is viewed as for Arsenal, having been the one competition they still haven’t got their hands on.

Arsenal have something of a complicated relationship with the Champions League, with the competition being one they haven’t won so far.

They, in fact, hold something of an unwanted record in Europe, having played the most matches in the competition without winning it.

Before the clash with PSG, Arsenal had played 188 games in the Champions League without winning it themselves.

Their French opposition is right behind them in that respect, with both looking to make the final and put that record behind them.
