Arsenal continued their perfect start to the new Premier League campaign as they thrashed Leeds United 5-0.

Arsenal announced the signing of Eberechi Eze before kick off and the excitement from the stands transformed onto the pitch as Jurrien Timber and Bukayo Saka gave the Gunners a 2-0 lead at half time.

The moment the Emirates Stadium was waiting for then happened in the 48th minute as Viktor Gyokeres opened his Premier League account with an excellent finish.

Timber and Gyokeres both bagged a brace before the full time whistle as Arsenal fans were in awe of Max Dowman’s performance. The Swedish striker has just proved Micah Richards to be spot on in his assessment of the player.

Viktor Gyokeres scored the exact type of goal Micah Richards predicted he would in the Premier League

Gyokeres opened his account with a powerful run down the left channel and cut inside to expertly fire the ball past the Leeds keeper.

Speaking on Sky Sports pre-match coverage of Arsenal’s victory over Manchester United the previous week, Richards predicted that the 27-year-old would score this type of goal throughout the season.

Richards stated: “I was watching all of his clips before today’s game and what he does like to do is isolate defenders and just when you think you’ve got him, he favours the left part of the pitch and he can go both ways.

“He attacks you one v one and loves that finish where he comes inside and whips it to the far post but also he can go on his left foot as well and hit it hard with that pace.”

It was a wonderful moment for the supporters and Gyokeres himself, you could see the relief on his face as the ball hit the back of the net.

Mikel Arteta will now be hoping that the Swede can continue to build his confidence and fitness into the campaign.

What Viktor Gyokeres said about his first Premier League goal

Gary Neville criticised Gyokeres during the first half for lacking composure in front of goal but was made to eat his words as the Swede scored a wonderful brace in the second period.

Speaking to Sky Sports during their post match coverage of the Arsenal v Leeds clash, Gyokeres was asked about his movement for the first goal.

Gyokeres stated: “Yeah I mean I think I’m comfortable when the ball is coming in behind, especially on the left and then cutting inside I know I’ll take the chance when I have it like that. It was a nice goal to start off with.”

Arteta will know that his striker will face a different challenge in their next match as they travel to Anfield to face champions Liverpool.

It may be a game that suits Gyokeres with Liverpool likely to push high up the pitch and leave space in behind their defence – something we have seen that the Swede thrives from.
