Mikel Arteta was clearly agonised by Arsenal’s 1-1 draw against Chelsea on Sunday afternoon.

Arsenal once again dropped Premier League points on Sunday, as they were held to a stalemate by Chelsea.

This result means that the Gunners have now failed to win six of the eleven top flight fixtures that they have contested so far this season.

Mikel Arteta heavily criticised his Arsenal players for the goal that they conceded in this London derby. However, the Gunners almost made amends with the final kick of the game.

How Mikel Arteta reacted to Leandro Trossard miss vs Chelsea

In the dying seconds of the match, William Saliba fired a low delivery across the face of goal. Kai Havertz was waiting to tap the ball home, but Leandro Trossard made contact first.

However, from close range, the Belgian could only succeed in diverted the ball away from his German teammate and wide of the post. Referee Michael Oliver called full time as soon as the ball went out of play.

Arsenal fans raged about Trossard’s miss after the match, whilst, having seen the 29-year-old miss the target and the chance to snatch victory, all Arteta could do was drop to the turf in his technical area in a fury.

The Spanish coach was clearly horrified by the miss, and what it meant for his side. Had Trossard scored, Saliba might have been deemed offside by VAR for his role in the move, but it would have been a very close call.

What does drawing against Chelsea mean for Arsenal?

The Gunners are now nine points behind Liverpool, who are leading the way at the top of the Premier League table.

Manchester City losing on Saturday lifted the spirits of Arsenal fans, but the fact remains that Arteta’s side are now very much on the back foot as far as the title race is concerned.

There is still a long way to go in the current campaign, of course, and there will be opportunities for the North London club to make up for lost ground.

However, Arsenal were warned that they needed to beat Chelsea to keep their title dream alive. The Gunners may not be dead and buried yet, but they have almost no margin of error left available to them with a lot of games left to play.

Arteta’s reaction to Trossard’s miss shows that he understands the damage that this draw has done.
