Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has revealed his frustration at the penalty decision given against his side in the clash with Brighton.

The Gunners were held to a 1-1 draw at the Amex Stadium, dropping yet more points in the Premier League title race.

It had started well in the first half as Ethan Nwaneri gave Arsenal the lead in the first half with an impressive finish.

The second half turned things on its head though as changes from Fabian Hurzeler gave Brighton a foothold in the game.

The Seagulls turned dominance into opportunities, with chaos ensuing in the Arsenal box during one attack.

That led to William Saliba heading Joao Pedro in the side of his head, with Anthony Taylor awarding a spot kick – which the Brazilian dispatched.

Arsenal fans were annoyed at the penalty decision, but they don’t appear to be the only ones frustrated by it.

Mikel Arteta breaks silence on Brighton penalty vs Arsenal

There were many questions about how Brighton were awarded a penalty, given the bizarre and unique nature of the decision.

Very rarely has a coming together between players in the box been given as anything more than a clash, but it was something given against Arsenal in the end.

Mikel Arteta revealed his frustration over the decision from Anthony Taylor when he spoke to the press after the match.

He claimed: “I have never seen a decision like this in my career.”

He followed it up on Sky Sports, claiming: “I have never seen it in my life. Saliba touches the ball.”

It was short and sharp from the Arsenal manager, perhaps best displaying the annoyance he has over the decision.

Arsenal referee decisions against them this season

There are some clear referee decisions that Arsenal fans feel especially aggrieved by during the season so far.

Two red cards have been awarded against the side for delaying the restart, with the Gunners the only team to suffer a sending off for that rule so far.

Both Declan Rice and Leandro Trossard were on the end of that, with the absence of the duo costing them.

The penalty decision is the latest in a list of Arsenal frustrations for the campaign, though other issues may need to be addressed before the chance of referee decisions going for or against a team.
