Why Viktor Gyokeres was so ‘upset’ with Bukayo Saka vs Chelsea, ‘I would go absolutely ballistic’

Viktor Gyokeres had his best game for Arsenal in several weeks against Chelsea.

The Sweden international was brought in to score goals for the Gunners, but he hasn’t been as prolific as he was at Sporting CP over the last two seasons.

That has led to a lot of criticism of Gyokeres. Comments about his poor movement inside the box are definitely valid, but there were signs of improvement in the Carabao Cup semi-final against Chelsea.

But the striker was clearly upset with one of his teammates during the game – Bukayo Saka.

Viktor Gyokeres was not happy with Bukayo Saka during Chelsea vs Arsenal

Both Saka and Viktor Gyokeres performed really well for Arsenal against Chelsea.

The England international troubled Marc Cucurella all game and was a constant threat down the right wing from the very first minute.

Gyokeres looked a lot better than he has done recently, and after he scored, his confidence seemed to go to the next level. He was excellent and even picked up a good assist.

However, just before his goal, Gyokeres had made a good run inside the box, and he would’ve had a tap-in if Saka had crossed the ball.

Instead, the Arsenal number seven cut back, leaving the Swede visibly upset and turning away for a moment in disappointment.

Speaking about the incident on Sky Sports, Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink, who knows a thing or two about being a top-class striker, claimed that Gyokeres was right to be upset, and he would be furious at Saka too if he were in his shoes.

He said: “Rightly so he gets upset that the ball doesn’t get there. I would go absolutely ballistic.”

Be honest. Do you think Bukayo Saka is the reason why Viktor Gyokeres has been struggling at Arsenal?

It is clear what Arsenal players need to do to get Viktor Gyokeres firing

The goal against Chelsea is the easiest Gyokeres will score all season. It was a simple tap-in from two yards out – it can’t get much easier.

However, the fact that the Swede was at the right place at the right time is a big positive, and his movement also sends a message to his teammates.

Arsenal players need to cross the ball into Gyokeres much earlier. The Swede clearly has the physicality to get himself on the end of it, so players need to make use of that.

Ben White did that perfectly, and the likes of Saka, Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard among others need to be doing that as well in the coming games.

If that happens, we are convinced that Gyokeres will explode at Arsenal.
