Gary Lineker believes that Victor Osimhen can help Arsenal achieve their goals.
Arsenal have already been heavily linked with a move for Napoli striker Victor Osimhen.
Sporting director Edu is said to have already held talks with the Italian outfit over the prospect of striking a deal for the Nigerian forward.
Since then, though, Osimhen has signed a new contract with Napoli. However, shortly after doing so, the 25-year-old made it clear that he wants to the leave the club in 2024, as the value of his £112 million release clause came to light.
Come the summer, with Osimhen almost certain to be on the move, Arsenal may well be planning to fight to secure his services. There will certainly be a battle for Osimhen’s signature. Manchester United are also keen to bring the player to the Premier League, as reported by the Manchester Evening News.
The 32-cap Nigeria international would certainly represent an exciting addition to the squad at the Emirates Stadium.
Former Tottenham Hotspur and Barcelona striker Gary Lineker is convinced that the north London club should push the boat out to sign Osimhen. He also feels that the Gunners would be the ideal club to join from the Napoli star’s perspective, too.
Speaking on The Rest is Football podcast, he said, “I think I’d look at it [the situation] and I’d go, at the moment, Arsenal. Obviously, we’re talking about everyone offering the same thing – that’s what you want, blah blah blah in your contract.”
“I mean, to be honest, they [players] earn so much now that you can just choose where you want to go. I would say Arsenal are probably a centre-forward away from winning things.”

Arsenal must cope without Victor Osimhen for now
Arsenal are certainly in need of a new striker. For all of his other qualities, Gabriel Jesus simply cannot be relied upon to put the ball into the back of the net often enough. The Brazilian himself has admitted that goalscoring is not one of the greatest strengths of his game, as he has only found the back of the net 3 times in the Premier League so far this season.
Arsenal have been linked with a host of potential signings in this position, but Osimhen is perhaps the most proven and prolific of the options available on the market. Last season, he fired Napoli to an historic Serie A title triumph. Mikel Arteta would be looking to the player to have a similar impact for Arsenal, as the Gunners now have genuine title-winning ambitions once again, having emerged as contenders last season.
There is no chance that Arsenal will be able to get a deal done for Osimhen before the summer, in what remains of the current January transfer window. As such, for what remains of this season, Arteta must focus on getting more out of Jesus and the rest of the attacking options already at his disposal.
