Amid a testing period for Arsenal strikers, Gabriel Martinelli has now been training centrally whilst away with Brazil this week.

TNT Sports Brazil shared training footage on X recently which not only showed Martinelli shining in a practice match, but also playing as a striker.

Martinelli was playing alongside Gabriel Magalhaes in training, and the Brazil manager now seems to be experimenting with the forward’s positioning.

Mikel Arteta has briefly tried Martinelli as a striker in the past, but seems to have opted against the idea in the long-term.

Either way, with Eddie Nketiah struggling for consistency amid Gabriel Jesus’ injuries, this could be an exciting development for Arsenal.

If Martinelli were to start as a striker in these coming Brazil games, given Jesus, Richarlison and Neymar are all missing, it could prove hard to ignore.

Martinelli perhaps has had a slightly quiet start to the season for Arsenal by his own standards, one disrupted by an injury.

But the Champions League has proved to be the perfect stage for the Brazilian ‘star’ to remind all of his world-class ability

And if Arsenal’s Martinelli were to get this chance as a striker for Brazil, his reputation could grow even further.

Although it is exciting to see Martinelli get such a chance, it probably shouldn’t change his trajectory under Mikel Arteta.

Gabriel Jesus is now close to returning to full fitness and his elite ability does now seem to be being forgotten.

Many are calling for Arsenal to sign a new striker in the near future, with Ivan Toney a name constantly mentioned.

And whilst Toney would no doubt be an excellent signing for The Gunners, it shouldn’t be motivated by any Jesus shortcomings.

The Brazilian has been excellent in his own right, a player who is rarely ever ineffective for Arsenal.

And although Leandro Trossard does now deserve further chances as a false nine, Jesus will soon be leading the line again.

Gabriel Martinelli may be forging his career as a striker for Brazil, but his future at Arsenal seemingly remains on the wing.
