£30m Arsenal star told to put in ‘transfer request’ after Mikel Arteta ‘problem’

Aaron Ramsdale’s situation at Arsenal has come under more scrutiny in recent weeks, and all signs appear to be pointing to an eventual exit.

David Raya has played in every Premier League game since initially coming in for Ramsdale in September, and has also been the number one in the Champions League.

This has meant Ramsdale has only featured in the Carabao Cup, and with Arsenal losing to West Ham, his prospects of game time now look slim.

Ramsdale told to hand in Arsenal transfer request

Speaking on ESPN FC, pundit Steve Nicol slammed Arteta’s decision to bring in Raya for Ramsdale, and encouraged the England international to force his way out.

“It does look as though Ramsdale’s had enough and actually, this is all Arteta’s fault,” he stated.

“The only way that Ramsdale was ever going to accept this was Raya being outstanding and then he can’t say anything.

“Arteta’s decided to go with Raya at the start of the season and the only way that Ramsdale can not have any problems is if Raya’s been outstanding, but the fact is he hasn’t been outstanding.

“Any professional player, whether you’re on the field, in the goal wherever it is, if you’re not playing and it’s pretty obvious that the guy in front of you is playing, but he’s playing well, you can’t say anything.

“You’ve just got to keep your head down, work hard and keep a smile on your face until you get an opportunity.

“But the fact that Raya has not been outstanding, the fact that he has made mistakes, more mistakes than we thought possible, but nothing’s changed, I’m sorry if Ramsdale walks in every morning with his chin at his feet, then you can’t have a problem with that if you’re anybody at Arsenal.

“And actually, if I’m Ramsdale I’ve got a transfer request in, absolutely ASAP.”

Should Ramsdale push for a transfer?

Ramsdale’s father recently made comments highlighting that the goalkeeping situation under Mikel Arteta felt unfair, and amidst a lack of playing time, as well as mistakes made by Raya, many have questioned the manager’s decision.

Ramsdale will have a chance against Brentford following the international break, with Raya ineligible to face his parent club, and he will be aiming to impress in what promises to be a tough away game.

If Arteta is true to his word about rotating his keepers, then the £30m signing from Sheffield United may also expect a chance in the Champions League, having helped Arsenal qualify for the competition last season.

If he plays well and finds himself dropped again, then he will have a right to be aggrieved, but if he fails to take the opportunity then he can have no complaints about being dropped.
