Noel Gallagher slams Mikel Arteta over ‘absolutely insane’ Arsenal decision

Noel Gallagher has now given his verdict on the goalkeeper situation Mikel Arteta is facing at Arsenal.

Aaron Ramsdale has been in the headlines this week, after his father publicly discussed the goalkeeper’s present circumstances at Arsenal. He spoke about his son’s unhappiness with his current back up role, and even claimed that there was a lack of communication about the issue from Mikel Arteta.

Ramsdale has been playing second fiddle to summer signing David Raya, since the Spanish ‘keeper took the No. 1 spot at the Emirates Stadium earlier this season.

Keeping both players happy at the club was always going to be a challenge for Arteta. However, journalist Fabrizio Romano has recently suggested that Ramsdale intends to stay and fight for his place at the north London club, rather than push for an exit in the upcoming January transfer window.

Mikel Arteta must keep control of Aaron Ramsdale situation

Noel Gallagher believes it was a mistake for Arteta to ever allow this situation to arise. As quoted by talkSPORT, the musician said, “I think he’s [Arteta] made a rod for his own back with the goalkeepers, he shouldn’t have done that.”

Though, the rockstar also conceded that Ramsdale’s father getting involved has hardly helped matters, stating, “the kid [Aaron Ramsdale] coming out today and getting his dad speaking for him is absolutely insane.”

In defence of the 25-year-old, there has been no proof that he encouraged his father to make the comments he did. In any case, Arteta likely won’t be delighted with the attention it has brought down upon his selection policy.

Ultimately, the Spanish coach has made the decision that he believes is the best one for his team. Raya is a more natural tactical fit for the style of play he is developing at Arsenal. The best thing Ramsdale can do at this stage is work hard on the training pitch, focus on improving his game, and makes sure he is ready to shine when opportunities to play do roll around.

Arteta will still be demanding absolute professionalism from the England man, despite his fall down the pecking order.
