Aaron Ramsdale has opened up on one key frustration he had on the Arsenal bench when he was dropped during the 2023/24 season.
The Englishman started last campaign as Mikel Arteta’s number one, but that changed after just three games in the Premier League.
Ramsdale was dropped for David Raya, and that created a lot of unwanted noise.
Arteta and Raya both came under a ton of criticism at the time, and Ramsdale has now opened up on something that constantly happened when he was on the bench.
What really annoyed Aaron Ramsdale when he was on the Arsenal bench
Anything Arteta does gets blown out of proportion, and the Arsenal manager’s decision to drop Ramsdale was no different.
Everyone who watched English football seemed to have an opinion on what had happened, and many of them went out of their way to criticise Arteta.
The Gunners boss was proven right in the end as Raya won the Golden Glove award and established himself as the best goalkeeper in the Premier League.
Ramsdale had to leave in the summer in search of regular game time, and the Englishman will return to the Emirates for the first time since his exit on Saturday.
Ahead of the game, Ramsdale has been talking about the time he got dropped, and he has revealed the one thing that really angered him then.
He told the BBC: “It used to do my head in coming off the pitch and my wife would say: ‘You were on the TV five times again today.’
“Why ever someone would pan to me when someone makes a save or a goal goes in? I do think the story was bigger than what it needs to be. I do think it put pressure on David at times as well.”

What’s Arteta and Ramsdale’s relationship like today?
It’s never nice for any player to be dropped by the manager, especially if you are a goalkeeper.
Ramsdale had to go through that at Arsenal last season even though he hadn’t really made too many mistakes. Arteta made a big decision and it worked out in the end.
Arsenal sold Ramsdale to Southampton in the summer, but despite the separation, there are no hard feelings between the parties.
Arteta and Ramsdale reportedly still share a great relationship and have even spoken to each other following the latter’s move to the St Mary’s.
That is great to hear as Ramsdale played a big part in helping Arsenal become title contenders.
