Alan Pardew wanted to give Leandro Trossard some attention after the Belgian’s terrific goal against Sunderland.
Mikel Arteta emerged from the Stadium of Light pained as his team dropped points for the first time since September, but one of his players would’ve been beaming.
Trossard scored his first Premier League goal outside of the box for Arsenal against the Black Cats, putting the Gunners ahead.
The winger’s goal was worthy of being the match-winner, but Sunderland had other ideas, scoring an injury-time equaliser.
After the draw, the discourse has been on Arsenal’s chances in the Premier League title race, but Trossard’s performance mustn’t be overlooked as a result.

Alan Pardew says Leandro Trossard is ‘as good as’ any Premier League forward
Arsenal fans were disappointed that Trossard signed a new contract in the summer, and those who had a problem with it are probably red-faced now.
11 games down in the Premier League season, it’s becoming clear how underrated Trossard is, with Alan Pardew the latest to draw attention to the 30-year-old.
Speaking on talkSPORT, Pardew reserved high praise for Trossard, sharing what he thinks about the Arsenal man after reviewing his statistics.
“I was looking at his stats. Actually, his stats were as good as anyone in the Premier League,” Pardew said.
The former Premier League manager went on to support Arteta’s decision to award Trossard as many minutes as he has this season, recording starts in seven of his nine league appearances.
“I’m not sure, but I think he’s played almost more minutes than anybody else in that Arsenal team. He’s getting a lot of game time because he keeps delivering.”
Pardew is right, Trossard does keep delivering, with the former Brighton star recording three goal contributions in his previous three appearances in all competitions.
The stats: Where exactly does Trossard thrive?
With 59 goal contributions in 138 appearances for Arsenal, Trossard’s numbers are very impressive, but where is he thriving above the rest this season?
| Statistic | Per 90 average | Rank in Premier League |
| Goals and assists | 0.56 | Top 7% |
| Attacking third touches | 31.07 | Top 7% |
| Switches | 0.70 | Top 4% |
| Live-ball passes | 38.35 | Top 9% |
| Average shot distance | 11.40 | Top 4% |
In the Premier League, the Belgian is one of the best in his role in the final third, averaging 0.56 goals and assists per 90, which is incredibly strong.
What has also become apparent is that Trossard is a master at switching play, ranking in the top 4% in the Premier League with his per 90 average of 0.70.
It’s been an encouraging start to the season for the 2023 signing, who is offering Arteta something few players can on the flanks right now.
