Alan Smith backs forgotten Arsenal star to make an impact, but Andrea Berta is looking to sell him

The Arsenal squad has undergone quite the transformation this summer, as a whole host of players have joined the club in their pursuit of glory.

The Gunners missed out on the title for a third successive season, with Mikel Arteta clearly missing something to get his team over the line.

Andrea Berta has looked to address that in the market, making several signings to solve key problems in the squad.

The latest, and perhaps most important, of these comes up front, as Arsenal have signed Viktor Gyokeres to finally solve their goal-scoring issues.

While the Swedish international is set to make quite the impact, there are concerns for those already in the squad.

Alan Smith backs Gabriel Jesus to still make an impact at Arsenal after Viktor Gyokeres signing

With Viktor Gyokeres now officially in North London, Arsenal can start to plan their route for the season with most of their transfer business completed.

The 27-year-old is likely to compete for the number nine spot with Kai Havertz, but there is also the forgotten aspect of Gabriel Jesus.

The Brazilian forward suffered a serious knee injury back in January, but is now fast approaching a potential return from his rehabilitation.

As that approaches, former Arsenal star Alan Smith has backed him to make an impact, telling Sports Mole: “Jesus, you can’t discount him as well. You think about how well he did when he came back into the team, then unfortunately got injured.

“You’ve got these players on the books that are easy to forget about, but they can still play a big part. You don’t want deadwood in the team, that’s for certain.

“So the players that do come in, they have to be of a high level, and getting players to join who might think, ‘Oh, am I going to be first choice?’ If they’re top-quality players, it’s hard to get them in. So it’s a balancing act.

“You don’t want players sat on the touch line who are going to kick up a fuss, create a bad atmosphere. You want good, solid citizens that are all pulling together.”

Despite the impact that Jesus could make while he is still at Arsenal, the future looks uncertain for him in North London.

Gabriel Jesus could now leave Arsenal this summer transfer window

Despite his long absence through injury, Gabriel Jesus could still make a transfer switch this summer to find his next permanent move.

Recent reports have stated that Berta is open to selling Jesus, with suggestions surrounding a potential return to Brazil with a loan-to-buy deal discussed.

The 28-year-old has played a huge part in turning Arsenal into title contenders, raising the standards upon his arrival.

An immediate impact with quality had plenty of fans stunned, as he showed great versatility and strength across the frontline.

Injuries and poor form have hampered him from kicking on and guiding the team to a major trophy, with the Gunners now signing others to help achieve that goal.

It’s unclear exactly what lies ahead for Gabriel Jesus, but it’s increasingly likely that it won’t be at Arsenal.
