Arsenal had scouts watch over Julian Alvarez during Atletico Madrid’s 3-2 defeat to Tottenham on Wednesday, according to TEAMTalk.

Diego Simeone’s team are through to the quarter-finals of the competition, where they will face FC Barcelona, and after that, it could be Arsenal in the semis.

The 26-year-old was on fire in North London as he scored a superb counterattacking goal before assisting David Hancko from a corner.

This campaign, Alvarez has now netted 17 goals and eight assists in 43 appearances for Atletico, which is a pretty strong return.

The former Man City attacker could arrive at the Emirates Stadium as a strong alternative to Viktor Gyokeres, who Arsenal are open to keeping.

Gabriel Jesus could end up leaving Arsenal in the summer if Alvarez were to arrive in North London during the next window.

Chelsea were also in attendance to watch the £82m striker, who has already informed Atletico that he is open to leaving in the summer.

Right now, Barcelona remains Alvarez’s dream destination; however, the Spanish club might not have the funds to make the move happen.

Alvarez has indicated that he would be open to a move to London, which could make either Chelsea or Arsenal strong contenders in the summer.
