Arsenal break Premier League record against Liverpool

Arsenal pushed themselves firmly into the Premier League title race by registering a huge 3-1 win over rivals Liverpool. Goals from Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard ensured the Gunners moved within two points of top spot.

It was a result that was needed to close the gap at the top, but there was an impressive performance to match it. It was a match that saw Arsenal dominate and even break a Premier League record when facing the Merseyside outfit.

As reported by TNT Sports, the Gunners recorded an xG (Expected goals value) of 3.52 in the match, which is the most Liverpool have ever faced in the Premier League since records of that stat began. It represents the huge performance put in by Mikel Arteta‘s team to defeat their rivals in such a way.

Mikel Arteta gives worrying Oleksandr Zinchenko injury update

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta gave a worrying update over the fitness of defender Oleksandr Zinchenko, following on from his side’s victory over Liverpool. The Ukrainian international started the match at the Emirates Stadium, but was withdrawn at half-time.

Jakub Kiwior replaced the left-back at the halfway mark and impressed when defending on the flank. It remains to be seen whether the defender will have to remain there for the fixtures that await, with some concerns over Zinchenko.

Speaking to the Evening Standard, Arteta said: “With Alex [Oleksandr Zinchenko] we don’t know. He felt something in his calf again so we had to take him off.”

The former Manchester City man had missed two matches in late December and early January through another calf problem. It remains to be seen whether he will be fit enough to face West Ham next up in the Premier League.

Callum Wilson has sent a message to Arsenal star Bukayo Saka on social media after the Gunners beat Liverpool 3-1 over the weekend. The England international scored the opening goal of the match, latching onto a save made by Alisson Becker.

The 22-year-old now has three goals in his last four Premier League appearances, returning to the form the north London outfit will need to be in the title race. Saka took to Instagram after the match to say: “It takes all of us! Enjoy that one Gunners, we keep going!”

Wilson replied with a fire emoji and a salute, recognising the performance of his England international teammate. There were questions over whether they could be club teammates too, after Newcastle United offered Wilson to Arsenal for a fee of just £18 million.
