The 2024/25 season is over, and Arsenal’s summer transfer business is set to commence, with Jorginho already announcing his departure.

The Gunners have a lot to do over the next few months, with Andrea Berta needing to move quickly to bring players in and shift players out at the Emirates.

A striker, a winger, a midfielder, a defender and a back-up goalkeeper are all areas that need addressing.

Martin Zubimendi is expected to be the first arrival, while Jorginho will be the first to leave the club.

Jorginho announced his Arsenal exit on his Instagram on Tuesday afternoon, posting an emotional goodbye video directed towards the Gunners faithful.

Arsenal fans react to Jorginho’s exit announcement

Jorginho will sign for Brazilian club Flamengo and is expected to take part in the Club World Cup this summer.

Despite arriving in the latter stage of his career from Premier League rivals Chelsea, Arsenal fans grew fond of the Italian very quickly.

His metronomic passing from midfield and his lovable character off the pitch endeared him to the Gunners supporters, and he leaves a charming legacy in North London.

Fans took to social media to express their gratitude and love for Jorginho after the player released his farewell video.

One supporter wrote: “Jorginho for around £10m was a brilliant bit of business. Provided experience, good cover and put in some excellent performances when called upon. It was a signing that divided opinion at the time but sad to see him go. A fantastic pro.”

Another added: “Jorginho will be remembered as an ultra-talented footballer who is an even better human being, which is really difficult to achieve with Chelsea on your resumé. Respect.”

One fan posed the question: “Anyone else cry at Jorginho’s farewell post?”

Along similar lines, another posted a gif of actor Steve Carell crying, with the caption: “Jorginho’s goodbye post.”

Meanwhile, one fan wrote: “Uncle Jorginho, we’ll never forget you.”

Jorginho was a great servant for Arsenal

Arriving as a divisive figure, the speed at which Arsenal fans took to the ex-Chelsea star speaks volumes about the quality he offered to Mikel Arteta’s team.

At £10 million, the deep-lying playmaker proved to be a bargain, offering the Gunners a dependable option in the number six position whilst Thomas Partey was out injured for long periods.

An exceptional passer, there was a stretch of the 2023/24 season in which Jorginho became essential to Arsenal’s ball progression.

Ultimately spending the majority of the latest campaign on the bench, there have been several reports about the 33-year-old’s influence off the pitch.

Helping young players, assuming a leadership role on and off the pitch and being a positive character around the training ground, Jorginho’s personality will be missed at Arsenal.
