Arsenal fans can’t stop talking about what ‘ridiculous’ player is doing on international duty

Arsenal fans are noticing how the international break is bringing the best out of one of Mikel Arteta’s players.

Back in North London, the Arsenal manager will just want his players to return fit and ready to contribute in a dense run of fixtures.

First, the Arsenal players on international duty will tend to their national team’s needs, and one player is certainly going above and beyond.

Riccardo Calafiori shone for Italy against Estonia, and Arsenal fans can’t stop talking about what the left-back is currently doing for the Azzurri.

Arsenal fans rave about Riccardo Calafiori’s performance for Italy against Estonia

Martin Keown thinks Calafiori has been played out of position by Arteta, believing that the Italian is more of a centre-back than a left-back.

Against Estonia, Calafiori started at centre-back for Italy, but after the match, it became even more confusing what the defender’s best position actually is.

Arsenal fans can’t work out where the 23-year-old is best suited, instead coming to the conclusion that the 2024 signing is a jack of all trades. 

“My LB, CB, RB, CDM, AM, LW, RW. Ladies and gentlemen, Calafiori, aka Big Cala,” one Arsenal fan said when reacting to Calafiori’s performance.

Despite starting the match in a back three, Calafiori still managed to have an impact in the final third, something Gooners far and wide couldn’t get their heads around. 

“Calafiori played in a back 3 today, created TWO chances and made 4 shots 😂😂 while making 5 clearances and 5 interceptions. Ridiculous player.”

Another fan also called the Italy international ‘ridiculous’. 

“Ridiculous talent! I was worried about his injuries last season but what a start to the season!”

One supporter insisted that Calafiori is neither a left-back nor a centre-back, but is instead a midfielder.

“This is a box-to-box midfielder. This is not a defender. Basically an Italian Ramos with astounding technical ability.”

Very few actually know what the player’s best role actually is, as noted last season when Arteta acknowledged that he could use Calafiori as a striker.

What makes his versatility all the more impressive is that fans already think the Italian is a world-class full-back. 

“He’s a monster at left back. We’re seeing exactly why he was signed. Unlucky with injuries in his first season, like Timber. Now, both are fully fit and flying. Hopefully, they will stay injury free. We have 2 world-class full-backs!”

“Best LB on earth, we kill all debates by end of the season.”

Another supporter was charmed by Calafiori’s movement, while one Arsenal fan even went as far as to predict that the defender could become the ‘best’ of his generation. 

“His movements are just awesome just like his ball carries and range of passes.”

“Calafiori could become the best defender of his generation, and I’m not even glazing.”

What was so good about Calafiori’s performance against Estonia? 

Arsenal fans can’t get enough of Calafiori right now, certainly after his display for his country.

So many are charmed by what the Italy international can do on the pitch, and his numbers against Estonia show exactly why.

Looking at Calafiori’s match statistics without knowing what position he played makes for a fascinating piece of trivia.

The 23-year-old was a force to be reckoned with in defence, but going forward, he fired four shots on goal and created two chances for his teammates to score.

There are few players who can do what Calafiori can right now, something Arteta will absolutely love.
