Arsenal have recently been linked with a move for Bournemouth striker Dominic Solanke.

Mikel Arteta is keen to bolster his striking options. Arsenal have been heavily linked with Brentford target man Ivan Toney. Sporting director Edu is said to have started work on trying to strike a deal for Napoli star Victor Osimhen. Brighton sensation Evan Ferguson is also believed to be on the north London club’s shortlist.

Now, according to the Daily Star, the Gunners are keeping tabs on Dominic Solanke. Arteta has earmarked the Cherries’ poacher as a back up target should Arsenal fail to bring Toney to the Emirates Stadium in the upcoming January transfer window.

Solanke is enjoying a fine campaign with the south coast club so far. The 26-year-old has netted 8 times in 16 Premier League outings. This has already bettered his return from last season, when he managed just 6 goals in 33 top flight appearances.

Whilst Solanke is in good form, it would be hard to argue that the once-capped England man is amongst the elite. He would not offer much more than Eddie Nketiah currently does, and he certainly doesn’t represent an upgrade on Gabriel Jesus.

Whilst Arteta has been impressed by Solanke’s work rate, and believes that the former Liverpool man can still take his game to new levels, he would still be something of an underwhelming acquisition.

Arsenal fans have their say on Dominic Solanke

Plenty of Arsenal fans feel that the club should be setting their sights beyond Solanke. Taking to X, one supporter said, “Solanke would be a massive step backwards and wouldn’t enhance our existing striker options.”

Another fan agreed, stating, “this is just sad.. Really SAD. How do you go from Victor to Ivan to Solanke.” Another said, “now that is incredibly underwhelming.” Another chipped in with, “explain this to me. Arteta has spent close to a billion on defenders and defensive players but signing a big money striker is where he draws the line.”

Arsenal have spent heavily in recent times. In the last summer transfer window, the Gunners shelled out a club-record transfer fee to bring Declan Rice to north London. Kai Havertz, Jurrien Timber, and David Raya were all also brought to the club.

Considering Arsenal’s existing attacking options who could lead the line, one supporter said, “we literally have Eddie Nketiah, Kai, Jesus as CF we are looking for upgrade then you’re going for solanke! I’m ashamed.”
