Viktor Gyokeres’ former teammates have been keeping up with his start to life at Arsenal.

The striker has had three shots in the Premier League so far, scoring two goals from his chances.

After Gyokeres was unfairly criticised following his competitive debut for Arsenal against Manchester United, the Swede responded in the best way possible in his second appearance.

In Arsenal’s 5-0 thrashing of Leeds United, Gyokeres scored two goals, replicating two things he frequently did in Portugal.

Pedro Goncalves’ special message to Viktor Gyokeres

Micah Richards knew it was only a matter of time until Gyokeres scored from the left side.

The 27-year-old did just that to open his Premier League account, cutting in from the left to go past two defenders and score.

Gyokeres’ goal excited the Emirates, but it wasn’t only Arsenal fans who enjoyed what they saw from the striker on matchday two.

On Instagram, Gyokeres’ former Sporting CP teammate sent a message in reaction to his performance against Leeds, a message that Arsenal supporters will love.

Pedro Goncalves commented, “He comes from Sweden”, paying homage to the chant Arsenal fans have already created for their summer signing.

The song did the rounds at the Emirates after the £64m striker’s first brace for the Gunners, with the chant referencing the extreme measures Gyokeres took to sign for Arsenal.

“He dumped his girlfriend to play in red and white,” the second line of the song says, a chant that Goncalves is loving over in Lisbon.

Gyokeres loves scoring early into seasons

Those still at Sporting will not be surprised to see their former teammate start the season impressively for Arsenal.

Gyokeres looked relieved to score his first goal, which says everything about the striker’s demands, having only gone 108 competitive minutes without a goal.

It’s the standards that the player has set over the years, notoriously starting league campaigns well on the scoring front.

When looking at the striker’s data since the 2021/22 campaign, it’s clear to see why he showed relief after scoring for Arsenal, having not scored on the opening day.

Arsenal won’t mind having to wait, as the Gunners’ new forward treated the Emirates to two goals in his first home appearance in the league.
