Ilkay Gundogan to Arsenal transfer chance

Arsenal could have a fresh chance at landing long-time transfer target Ilkay Gundogan in the final two weeks of the transfer window.

The Gunners had previously been rumoured with interest in the midfielder last summer, following the expiry of his contract at Manchester City.

Despite that interest from Mikel Arteta, the German international opted to join Spanish giants Barcelona instead.

While the 33-year-old has only completed his first year at the Camp Nou, an exit could be on the cards in the near future.

Recent reports have stated that Gundogan is free to leave Barcelona in the summer transfer window, which may open up the chance for a deal.

With Arsenal missing out on Gundogan the first time, it remains to be seen if they will reignite their interest in the midfielder.

Eddie Nketiah bid rejected

Arsenal have seen new interest in striker Eddie Nketiah ahead of the final two weeks of the summer transfer window.

The Hale End academy graduate was handed just nine starts in the Premier League last season, despite an impressive start to the campaign.

It has led to uncertainty surrounding the England international and his place in the team at the Emirates Stadium.

Olympique Marseille and Bournemouth have both previously been linked with a switch for Nketiah over the summer – though they have since backed out of the race.

`However, according to The Athletic, Nottingham Forest have seen an opening bid of £25million rejected for the forward.

Dialogue is said to be ongoing, with Arsenal requesting roughly £30million-to-£35million to let Nketiah leave.

It remains to be seen whether the East Midlands outfit will look to meet that asking price in the weeks ahead.

How much Arsenal will pay for Mikel Merino

Arsenal’s move for Mikel Merino is dragging on in the summer transfer market as they look to seal a deal for the midfielder.

The Spaniard impressed for Real Sociedad last season before he helped Spain earn glory in the European Championships over the summer.

With his recent return to action for his club, there is ongoing talks to bring Merino to North London for the future.

Amid talks, journalist Charles Watts discussed the move in his Daily Briefing, with some key details over the move.

“[Real Sociedad have] Been holding out to get a fee and a deal structure that works for them and that has obviously seen things drag on a bit longer than Arsenal and certainly Mikel Arteta would have wanted.

“There’s no doubt Arteta would have liked to have Merino on board earlier than this, but he has had to remain patient while discussions between the clubs have remained ongoing.”

On the price tag, Watts added: “It looks like being around the £30million mark, which in today’s market does not seem excessive.”
