Arsenal have had a great start to the new season.

The Gunners are currently on top of the Premier League table after winning five of their first seven games. They are a point above defending champions Liverpool.

Arsenal have won both their games in the Champions League as well, and they have also made it into the next round of the Carabao Cup.

After 10 fixtures, Mikel Arteta’s men are in a phenomenal position, and they have done something that has never happened in Arsenal’s history.

Arsenal set a new all-time club record thanks to their defence

Arsenal have maintained the best defensive record in the Premier League in each of the last two seasons.

The Gunners have an incredible back four. William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes are the two best centre-backs in the division, while Jurrien Timber and Riccardo Calafiori have both been sensational this season.

To add to that, David Raya has been unbelievable in goal, and he has saved Arsenal on multiple occasions since he became a regular.

The North Londoners are once again the favourites to maintain the meanest defence in the league, and they have had a record-breaking start.

After 10 games in all competitions, the Gunners have conceded just three goals. That is the best record Arsenal have had in their 138-year history.

Arteta’s men have now beaten Arsene Wenger’s 2007/08 side, who let in four goals in their first 10 games.

If they keep going, Arsenal can break Chelsea’s Premier League record of conceding just 15 goals in a season. That came in the 2005/06 campaign, when Jose Mourinho was their manager.

Arsenal have matched another incredible defensive record

Arsenal were so fluid in attack when Wenger was at the helm, and people always complained about the leaky defence back then.

Arteta has completely changed that in recent years, and the back five is getting even better.

In the 10 games they have played so far this season, Arsenal have kept seven clean sheets. That has been done just three other times in the club’s history – 1903/04, 1986/87 and 1987/88.

That makes the clean sheet record this season the best at Arsenal in 37 years, which, again, is an unbelievable record.

If the Gunners go on to win the Premier League or Champions League this term, their defence will have played a huge part.
