One of Arsenal’s summer signings knows what it’s like to go an entire league season unbeaten, just like the Invincibles of 2003/04.
Just over two decades ago, Arsene Wenger put together a squad that went an entire Premier League season without losing a single match.
This was a feat that had only happened once before in English football, and that was all the way back in 1888/89, courtesy of Preston North End.
Unbeaten league campaigns aren’t massively uncommon as a whole across the world, but when it comes to the elite leagues, they are incredibly rare.
However, Arsenal just so happen to have an Invincible in their ranks right now.

Piero Hincapie went unbeaten in 2023/24 Bundesliga season with Bayer Leverkusen
The player in question is Piero Hincapie, who joined from Bayer Leverkusen on transfer deadline day.
Hincapie became Arsenal’s final signing of the summer, joining from Bayer Leverkusen on a season-long loan with an option to buy.
The Gunners have agreed a fee of £45million for the Ecuador international should they want to sign him permanently next summer.
Hincapie’s Invincible campaign came in 2023/24, when Leverkusen stunned the world of football by going unbeaten in the Bundesliga.
Remarkably, it was their first ever league title, and it was also the first time a team had ever gone without a loss in the Bundesliga.
Hincapie played a big part in Leverkusen’s triumph, with 26 appearances, along with contributing to their German Cup win and their run to the Europa League final.

How those familiar with Piero Hincapie’s game feel he’ll do for Arsenal
Hincapie is a solid signing for Arsenal, who Mikel Arteta has described as a “big character” and Andrea Berta has called an “intelligent defender with real strength and versatility”.
And while the Premier League is an incredibly tough competition, especially towards the top, Hincapie has been tipped to do well for the Gunners.
| Competition | Appearances | Goals | Assists | Yellow cards | Red cards | Minutes |
| Bundesliga | 26 | 1 | 1 | 2 | – | 1.483′ |
| Europa League | 12 | – | – | – | – | 911′ |
| German Cup | 5 | – | – | 1 | – | 223′ |
| Total | 43 | 1 | 1 | 3 | – | 2.617′ |
This is according to Arsenal expert Charles Watts, who spoke to people who are familiar with Hincapie’s game.
“From speaking to people who have seen a lot of him, they really, really rate him,” said Watts.
“They think he’s going to be a really good signing.”
It’ll be exciting to see how Hincapie fares at Arsenal, but one thing’s for sure – the Gunners have incredible strength in depth at the back now.
It’s a far cry from the leaky defence that was knocking about when Arteta first took the reins at the Emirates Stadium.
