Arsenal fans believe Ian Wright’s reaction ‘says it all’ after footage of Aaron Ramsdale stunning the Gunners icon with his honest admission now resurfaces on social media.

The 25-year-old has fallen hugely out of favour under manager Mikel Arteta at Arsenal so far this season. Ramsdale started the campaign as the Spaniard’s No1 but lost the spot to David Raya in September. He has since had to settle for a reserve role and just a seat on the bench.

Arsenal went unbeaten through their opening four Premier League games with Ramsdale in their net. The north London natives also beat Manchester City in the Community Shield. But Arteta sought a change and has since trusted Raya relentlessly, despite some shaky outings.

Ramsdale has fallen behind Raya in Arsenal’s pecking order

Raya has started in each of Arsenal’s last eight Premier League games and each of their four Champions League ties. Ramsdale, on the other hand, only returned to the Gunners’ squad for their Carabao Cup clashes against Brentford and West Ham United, who edged them 3-1.

It came as a bit of a surprise when Arteta signed Raya on loan from Brentford in the summer with an option to buy. Ramsdale had been Arsenal’s undisputed first-choice since he ousted Bernd Leno after the September international break in 2021 having joined over that summer.

Arsenal paid Sheffield United £24m, rising to £30m, to sign Ramsdale. They even gave him a new contract until June 2026 this May after making the 2022/23 PFA Team of the Year. But it was still not enough for Ramsdale to stay ahead of Raya in Arteta’s pecking order at Arsenal.

Wright’s reaction ‘says it all’ after Ramsdale’s honest admission

Now, footage from an interview Ramsdale did with Wright for the Premier League’s YouTube channel in May has resurfaced. During the interview, Ramsdale revealed he can struggle for concentration throughout a game. He also explained why the goalkeeper interacts with fans.

“If you ask me to concentrate on a game of football for 90 minutes, I’m finished. I can’t do it,” Ramsdale said. “So, that’s why I get involved with the fans and I’ll sing along with the songs.”

He continued: “[If] someone’s giving me abuse, I’ll turn around and I’ll give them a bit back. I have had my two-three minutes of sort of madness in my head, [then] straight back to [the] football. I’ve got 10-15 minutes of pure concentration again.”

Arsenal fans have flocked to share their reactions to the clip of Ramsdale’s interview after it resurfaced on X. Some supporters have also even noticed how Wright reacted to Ramsdale’s claim. The Gunners great appeared stunned and increasingly concerned while he continued.
