Legendary former Arsenal goalkeeper David Seaman has aimed a dig at Jamie Carragher.
David Seaman has taken issue with some recent comments that Jamie Carragher made about Arsenal.
The former Liverpool defender took offence to how Martin Odegaard celebrated Arsenal’s recent 3-1 win over the Reds.
After the final whistle on Sunday, the Gunners’ club captain could be seen taking photos of the club’s official photographer, Stuart MacFarlane, on the pitch at the Emirates Stadium. Carragher felt that the Norwegian was taking the celebration too far and urged him to go down the tunnel.
This is not the first time that Arsenal have been accused of over-celebrating this season. Mikel Arteta also came under fire for his exuberant expression of joy at having seen his side overcome Jurgen Klopp’s league leaders. TV presenter Richard Keys accused Arteta of lacking “dignity”.
However, Arsenal icon Ian Wright spoke up in defence of Odegaard and Arteta, urging them, and the club’s supporters, not to allow their joy to be diminished.
Now Seaman has also criticised Carragher’s comments. Speaking on his Seaman Says podcast, the 60-year-old said, “I did have a little chuckle last night when I was listening to Jamie Carragher having a go at Odegaard and the photographer. I’m like: ‘Oh, just lost have ya Jamie?’”
“I was like, ‘Oh my god, so you’ve never celebrated?!, and Stuart [MacFarlane], the photographer, has been there since I was there. He’s been there since day one and everyone loves Stuart. He’s so passionate about Arsenal.”
“He knows everything about Arsenal, loves everything about Arsenal and I like that. I like that little interaction because Stuart wanted his bit with all the fans behind and all the fans stayed behind. It was a good day for Arsenal, a really good day. I can’t have a go at Mikel Arteta or the lads for celebrating how they did because it was a massive result for Arsenal.”

How Arsenal must respond to win over Liverpool
This win reignited Arsenal’s Premier League title bid, taking them to within just two points of Liverpool. Arteta and his players had every reason to celebrate wildly. This was a well-earned, all-important, statement victory which could yet come to be viewed as a defining moment in their campaign.
The challenge now for the Gunners is to build upon it. Arsenal have been warned that they cannot afford to let their standards slip when they travel to face West Ham United this weekend. Arteta will know that, as seismic as the win over Liverpool felt, it was worth the same amount of points as they took from their victory over Nottingham Forest prior to that. He will also realise that so much of their good recent work could be undone by a defeat at the London Stadium.
For all of his distaste of the Gunners’ celebrations, Carragher does accept that Arsenal could win the Premier League title this season, and has explained what the north London club need to do in order to be crowned champions come the end of the campaign.
