Arsenal have been sensational in front of goal in recent weeks, defying critics who questioned their goalscoring ability earlier this season.

There has been constant speculation over strikers Arsenal could sign in the summer, with Victor Osimhen among those linked as Mikel Arteta has been told to add a goalscorer to his squad.

However, Arsenal are clearly coping well without a top-class goalscorer, as they have now scored 31 times in their last seven league games, helping set a new Premier League record.

Their victory over Sheffield United was record-breaking for several reasons, and in terms of goals, this is now Arsenal’s best-ever Premier League campaign at this stage of the season.

Arsenal break club goalscoring record in the Premier League

With 27 Premier League games played, Arsenal have scored 68 goals. This is their highest tally at this stage of the campaign in any season in Premier League history.

The last Arsenal side to win the title were the Invincibles in 2003-04, and at this same stage of the season, they had scored 53 goals, despite having world-class goalscorers such as Thierry Henry and Robert Pires in the side.

Liverpool’s remarkable league title win in 2019-20 saw them win 26 of their first 27 games in the campaign. However, at this point, they had scored 64 times compared to Arsenal’s 68.

In 2021-22, Manchester City won the title on the final day of the season, having competed well with Liverpool throughout. They too, had 64 goals after 27 games.

Manchester United’s treble-winning side in the 1998-99 season have also been bested by Mikel Arteta’s team in this regard, with 62 goals at this stage of their campaign.

Arsenal’s second-best total came in the season after the Invincibles, where they had scored 63 times after 27 games, and both the other sides to win the title under Arsene Wenger were significantly behind this total.

Many questioned where Arsenal’s goals would come from without a player like Erling Haaland or Mohamed Salah, but the goals have been distributed well across the team.

Bukayo Saka is the current top scorer in the side this season, with 13 strikes this season. Leandro Trossard and Kai Havertz are next in line with seven goals each.

Gabriel Martinelli and Martin Odegaard have both scored six times each, whilst England Internationals Eddie Nketiah and Declan Rice have five to their names.

Gabriel Jesus is falling behind on four goals, level with Gabriel Magalhaes, who has been a menace from attacking set-pieces.

Arsenal do not have to rely on one singular goalscorer to stay fit or in form, and this bodes well for the rest of the season as they aim to win the title.
