Arsenal are already starting work on summer transfer targets and they’ve now opened talks to sign a potential replacement for Ben White.

Although White has played in recent weeks, he has fallen behind Jurrien Timber in terms of being first-choice and is among a number a of Arsenal players who could depart this summer.

Mikel Arteta is constantly looking to evolve his squad and if White is to depart, he’ll want a top end replacement.

Indeed, it’s now been claimed that talks have begun to sign Newcastle’s Tino Livramento.

Here’s our Arsenal XI to take on Atletico Madrid…are you making any changes?

Arsenal open talks to sign Newcastle’s Tino Livramento

Arsenal have a long standing interest in Livramento and he’s expected to go to the World Cup this summer with England.

However, his future may lie away from Newcastle, with FootballTransfers reporting that Arsenal have now held what they claim are in-depth discussions with his representatives.

Livramento is among a number of Newcastle players facing an uncertain future in the Northeast.

The Toon are expected to see a number of players attract interest, with midfielder Sandro Tonali also a player on Arsenal’s radar.

As for Livramento, he provides an option for Mikel Arteta that is similar to what Timber brings him.

Despite being predominantly a right-sided player, the Englishman can play on the left, giving the Gunners two full-backs who are more than adept on either side.

Livramento would have to be a squad player at Arsenal

As good as Tino Livramento is, you have to question whether he would move to Arsenal to just sit on the bench.

If Timber is fit, then he doesn’t play. If Calafiori is fit, he also doesn’t play down the left. Then add in Piero Hincapie, and suddenly he’s in a four way battle just to start.

Of course, it is a squad game and it’s all about constantly improving and adding to the squad for the top clubs.

But with Livramento now in the England set up, he will have to think if it’s worth sacrificing game time and ultimately, his England place, to move to Arsenal.
