Arsenal told their £63m striker target is now ‘up there’ with Erling Haaland and Harry Kane

The January transfer window is not too far away and Arsenal have been linked with moves to sign several players.

The Gunners haven’t had the best start to the season. They have dropped points in eight of their first 17 games in all competitions so far, which is a very poor record.

However, Arsenal remain just four points behind their biggest title rivals Manchester City, and with 27 games still left to be played, there is every chance that the Gunners will go all the way.

What would help Mikel Arteta is a few quality additions in the January transfer window. A new striker is on everyone’s agenda and one prolific Swede is on many fans’ minds.

Anders Limpar speaks about Viktor Gyokeres to Arsenal

Anders Limpar spent four years at Arsenal and even helped the club win the league title in the 1990/91 season, which was his debut campaign.

The Swede still has fond memories of his time in North London. He remains a fan of the club and wants Arsenal to do well every time they are on the pitch.

That could aid the Gunners in their pursuit of one player – Viktor Gyokeres.

Gyokeres has been heavily linked with a move to Arsenal in 2025. The striker has been on fire for Sporting CP and the Sweden national team, and he has become a wanted man.

Limpar has now revealed that he is a ‘mentor’ to Gyokeres. He has claimed that if the striker joins Arsenal, it would be ‘absolutely crazy’ and has boldly said that the Sporting star is now ‘up there’ with superstars like Erling Haaland and Harry Kane.

Speaking to Fotboll Direkt, Limpar said: “I know Gyokeres very well personally. I was a bit of a mentor for him when he played for Brommapojkarna, he and Ludwig Augustinsson. So, I’ve talked a lot about professional life with him. He is a fantastically hard-working forward who scores a lot of goals.

“Haaland has been the absolute best that has existed in Europe for many years. Of course, you have these cannons like Lewandowski, Kane and Salah. Gyokeres, he is up there now, among the world stars. He is the kind of player who can almost choose which club he wants to go to.

“Should we at Arsenal buy Gyokeres, then he will definitely call me. But to see Gyokeres in Arsenal, that would be absolutely crazy!

“His work capacity, he runs like crazy. When it doesn’t work for Viktor, he works his way into the match with awkward runs. When things don’t really go the other top forwards’ way, they don’t work so hard for the team, they save their energy.

“Viktor never saves his energy. When it’s a bit slow, he works his way into a game with runs, that’s why it’s gone so well.”

Arsenal can sign Gyokeres for a bargain fee in 2025

Gyokeres was a part of Edu Gaspar’s five-man striker shortlist at Arsenal before he resigned from his role as the club’s sporting director.

Kai Havertz is the Gunners’ main man up top these days, and as good as the German is, he is not someone who can score 25 or 30 goals a season.

Gyokeres has proven that he can be prolific, and The Telegraph recently revealed that the Sporting star will be available for £63 million, which is £20 million less than his release clause.

Arsenal don’t really like to spend big money in January, but if they have a chance to sign Gyokeres for around £63 million, Arteta has to splash the cash and get him in.

Manchester United also want Gyokeres and Ruben Amorim’s presence there could give them an edge. But, Arsenal are the better side and a recommendation from Limpar could help the Gunners seal the deal.
