Arsenal are ready and willing to bring Alexander Isak to North London this summer if the Newcastle striker rejects a new contract, Arsenal Insider sources understand.
Arsenal’s injury crisis this season has meant that Mikel Merino was used as an emergency striker in the win over Leicester, albeit showing that he may have something to offer in the position.
Mikel Arteta’s side are gunning for glory in the Premier League and Champions League and whilst Arsenal have won titles with injuries before, the club must be rueing their missed opportunity to bolster their squad in January.
Attentions now turn to the summer, Bukayo Saka and William Saliba contracts are yet to be negotiated and the North London side know they are under pressure to find a striker and a winger in the market.
Isak is Arteta’s dream target and the Gunners are ready to bring the Swedish international to the club to bring the firepower they need up top.

What Arsenal think about Alexander Isak transfer swoop this summer amid interest from Europe’s elite
Arsenal are desperate for a world-class striker this summer having relied on Kai Havertz for much of this season and in Isak, he is a player that would bring quality to the Gunners front line.
Liverpool and Chelsea are also showing an interest in the Newcastle forward as well as Europe’s elite with Barcelona and PSG also monitoring his contract talks.
TBR Football’s Graeme Bailey confirmed that Newcastle would demand in excess of £100m for Isak, while the Magpies are looking to tie him down to a new deal.
If one cannot be agreed, then Arsenal are ready and willing to make a push to sign the striker over the summer.
When it came to Isak, he told Arsenal Insider: “Arsenal will bring in a new striker, at this point, it would be surprising if it is not Isak or Sesko.
“Sesko is an easier deal to do, less than half the price, but for a reason – he is still somewhat unproven…Isak on the other hand is one of the form strikers in the world.
“Arsenal liked Isak before and they know he could hit the ground running, but whether a deal can be done is the question.
“Newcastle’s finishing position is crucial but even if they land top-five, which will be enough for a Champions League slot – it remains to be seen however, if they will be able to tie him down to a new contract.”
What Alexander Isak would bring to Arsenal’s attack other than just goals
Isak has been in sensational form for Newcastle this season and has already scored 17 Premier League goals as well as scoring against the Gunners in the Carabao Cup semi final.
The Swedish international is quick and likes to run in behind defences that then creates space in front of the back four – a perfect scenario for Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard to operate in.
| Key attacking metrics this season (per 90) | Isak | Havertz |
| Goals | 17 | 9 |
| Progressive carries | 2.95 | 1.67 |
| Progressive passes received | 6.95 | 5.39 |
| Shots on target | 46.9% | 40.4% |
| Dribble success | 46.5% | 23.7% |
Not only is Isak more of a natural finisher than Havertz but he poses a more powerful threat with the ball at his feet and can create chances and goalscoring opportunities out of nothing.
His dynamism and ability to stretch defences will be a whole new option for Arteta and his side with the likes of Saka and Odegaard able to thrive should the Gunners be able to strike a deal for the in-form forward.
