Arsenal host Chelsea on Sunday afternoon at the Emirates, in what will be the 211th meeting between the two sides.

The Gunners will be looking to reduce the points gap to league leaders Liverpool, who currently sit 15 clear at the summit of the English top flight, while the Blues will be eager to tighten their grip on a top four spot.

Chelsea and Arsenal have developed a heated rivalry in the 21st century, prompted by the West Londoners rise to prominence as a force in the Premier League.

The North London outfit have generally fared better in the derby over the years, winning 84 of the 210 matches between the sides, drawing 60.

Here’s a look at some of the most memorable, and most painful, of those matches for the Gunners.

Arsenal’s two biggest victories over Chelsea

Arsenal have enjoyed several glorious triumphs over Chelsea in the past, and here are the two biggest wins they’ve claimed in the fixture.

Arsenal 5-0 Chelsea – April 2024

Arsenal beat Chelsea 5-0 at the Emirates last spring, and this was actually the biggest scoreline that the Gunners have registered over the Blues in history.

Mikel Arteta’s team produced an exceptional display in N5, dismantling Mauricio Pochettino’s side.

An early goal from Leandro Trossard set the pace, before the North Londoners had to ride the wave of some Chelsea pressure before the break.

However, after weathering this minor storm, Arsenal blitzed the away team in the second half, with Kai Havertz bagging a brace against his former club, and Ben White also scoring twice.

The Havertz ‘waka waka’ chant reverberated around a jubilant Emirates that night, in what is to date, the greatest game in Arsenal’s storied history against Chelsea.

Chelsea 1-5 Arsenal – November 1930

Since the first meeting between the two sides in 1907, Arsenal have only beaten Chelsea by a four-goal margin or more twice; once in 2024 and once in 1930.

A team that included Arsenal legend Cliff Bastin pulled up to Stamford Bridge in November 1930 and steamrolled their West London counterparts, under the guidance of one Herbert Chapman.

David Jack scored a hat-trick in front of the 74,000 attending fans on the day, with the rout completed by goals from Jack Lambert and Joey Williams.

Thomas Law’s penalty for the home team was the only thing that prevented this from matching Arsenal’s record win over their bitter rivals.

Arsenal have scored five against Chelsea four more times, but they shipped more than one goal in each of these games.

Arsenal’s two biggest defeats to Chelsea

Amidst the triumphant memories against Chelsea, Arsenal have been dealt many damaging blows against one of their primary nemesis’.

Chelsea 6-0 Arsenal – March 2014

In Arsene Wenger’s 1,000th game in charge of Arsenal, the Gunners notoriously lost 6-0 to Jose Mourinho’s Chelsea.

In what was a dismal display from start to finish, the writing was on the wall very early on, as the travelling side fell 2-0 down within the first seven minutes, courtesy of goals from Samuel Eto’o and Andre Schurle.

Kieran Gibbs was then sent off for the away team, mistakenly identified by referee Andre Marriner as Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, who should’ve been cautioned for the incident, after saving a Chelsea shot with his hands.

Eden Hazard converted the ensuing penalty, before two goals from Oscar and a late strike from Mohamed Salah put the seal on Wenger’s darkest day.

Arsenal 0-5 Chelsea – November 1998

Chelsea travelled north to take on reigning League Champions Arsenal at Highbury in the League Cup fourth round in November 1998, and emerged with a shock victory that was, at the time, their record win over the Gunners.

Player-manager Gianluca Vialli named a strong Chelsea team that included himself, and the likes of Roberto Di Matteo and Gus Poyet, while Wenger rung the changes for the domestic cup match.

The respective strengths of the two sides was reflected in what happened in the match, as Chelsea ran riot, winning 5-0 courtesy of a penalty from Frank Leboeuf, and braces from both Vialli and Poyet.
