Benjamin Sesko could be about to do exactly what Rasmus Hojlund did after missing out on Arsenal move

Arsenal’s Premier League season gets underway on Sunday, and all eyes will be on two players at Old Trafford.

Indeed, Viktor Gyokeres has signed for Arsenal, while Benjamin Sesko will potentially be lining up as his opposite number for Manchester United.

Of course, Arsenal fans have a vested interest in both players. Gyokeres is the Gunners’ shiny new striker, while Benjamin Sesko was strongly linked to Arsenal at one point.

Sesko could be set to make his Manchester United debut against his one-time would-be suitors, and, interestingly, we have been here before.

Indeed, a couple of years ago, another Manchester United signing made their debut against Arsenal not long after being linked with a move to the Emirates.

Benjamin Sesko could copy Rasmus Hojlund

Back in 2023, Arsenal and Manchester United were gearing up for another early season clash.

The Red Devils headed to the Emirates in early September, and in that game Rasmus Hojlund made his Manchester United debut.

Hojlund had signed for United in early August, and made his debut against Arsenal a month later.

Ironically, Hojlund had been linked to Arsenal that summer, and there he was making his debut vs the Gunners.

Sesko could be set to follow the exact same path this weekend as he gears up to make his United debut too.

Hojlund made his debut vs Arsenal back in 2023, and, sadly, it was a debut to forget for the Dane.

Indeed, Hojlund came on with half an hour to go with the game level, before two late goals condemned Manchester United to defeat.

Not only that, on a personal level, Hojlund was poor on the day.

Arsenal fans quickly realised they had something of a lucky escape with Hojlund after missing out on a £72m move for the striker, and Mikel Arteta will be hoping to feel similar emotions this weekend when as he watches Gyokeres and Sesko go at it.

Whether or not Sesko proves to be a greater success than Hojlund remains to be seen, but it is interesting to note that he is set to make his United debut against the same opposition.
