Arsenal might have just received a boost regarding their pursuit of transfer target Benjamin Sesko.

Despite being early into the 2025 summer transfer window, some fans might already be growing tired of the debate over whether Arsenal should sign Viktor Gyokeres or Sesko

The latter offers a younger option that has experience in one of Europe’s top five leagues, but Gyokeres’ high-scoring season with Sporting CP cannot be overlooked.

Arsenal sporting director Andrea Berta has been in contact with Gyokeres, just as the Gunners have been keeping tabs on Sesko, with both players having uncertain futures at their respective clubs.

RB Leipzig are looking at Benjamin Sesko alternatives

Sesko’s agents have been invited to the Emirates as Mikel Arteta’s admiration for the player is clear.

Though the 22-year-old has impressed in Germany, it’s yet to be decided whether he’s ahead of Gyokeres in the race to become Arsenal’s number nine.

Over in Germany, it’s thought that Sesko is likely to join Arsenal this summer, and another indication of such has just been revealed.

Journalist Sacha Tavolieri took to X to reveal that RB Leipzig are ‘pushing’ to sign Brazilian striker Romulo.

What’s interesting about Tavolieri’s update is that it’s said that the Goztepe striker is considered Leipzig’s ‘first target’ if Sesko were to leave the club this summer.

Talks are understood to be ‘underway’ with the player, which could present a glimmer of hope in Arsenal’s pursuit of signing Sesko

Leipzig actively talking to successors for the Slovenian is a big indication that the striker will be on the move this summer, but will his destination be Arsenal?

Sesko or Viktor Gyokeres?

When looking at goals alone, the smartest choice would be for Arsenal to sign Gyokeres, who netted 39 goals in the Portuguese top flight last season.

Sesko only scored 13 times in the Bundesliga, but when assessing the difference between the two leagues, the gap between the two goal tallies isn’t as glaring.

The biggest concern about Gyokeres is that his high-scoring feats have come away from Europe’s top five leagues, triumphing in the Championship before making the move to Portugal.

Sesko isn’t scoring as freely, but at 22, the forward isn’t the finished article, giving Arteta food for thought.

The transfer race is wide open, and it must be remembered that Ollie Watkins is also in the mix, making for a fascinating battle.
