Myles Lewis-Skelly’s career is definitely at a bit of a crossroads right now and Darren Bent believes there is a big decision for all parties to make this summer.

Lewis-Skelly looked ready to be England and Arsenal’s first-choice left-back after last season but he has dropped well down both pecking orders this term.

Now, with Man United said to be keen on him, self-confessed Arsenal fan and pundit, Darren Bent, believes it might be time to move on.

Imagine you are Andrea Berta. How will you respond if Manchester United call you to sign Myles Lewis-Skelly?

Darren Bent says why Myles Lewis-Skelly should leave Arsenal

It does seem a shame that we’re in a position where Lewis-Skelly’s future is being discussed but here we are.

In terms of PSR, it could make sense for Arsenal to cash in but Bent believes for the player himself, a move might be worth it.

“I think he might have a big decision as well, because I get it. He signed that new contract. But, I did think this season would go for him if I’m honest. I thought after what he did last season, getting himself in the team, becoming an England international, scoring on his debut, I honestly thought this season he would absolutely explode. He’d be the number one choice for England now and we wouldn’t be having this conversation,” Bent commented on TalkSPORT.

“But the fact of the matter is Calafiori came back and was brilliant, Hincapie has been brilliant as well. So I think it’s not just Arsenal who’ve got a decision to make. I think Lewis-Skelly might do because even if he doesn’t go to Manchester United and they don’t buy him, he needs to be playing minutes.

“So maybe he might have to go on loan.”

Has Mikel Arteta seen enough of Myles Lewis-Skelly?

There was a period last season where it looked like we’d got another homegrown talent into the squad who would cement their place for years to come.

However, the signing of Piero Hincapie in the summer and the continued use of Jurrien Timber at left-back when needed shows what Mikel Arteta really thinks.

With Riccardo Calafiori also the number one choice in that position, Lewis-Skelly has definitely found himself shunted down the pecking order here.

Mikel Arteta may well have just decided that ultimately, the youngster is not quite good enough in the position for the long-term. Add to that that Lewis-Skelly is not going to break into Arsenal’s midfield, and suddenly he finds himself in a tricky situation.

Like players of the past like Reiss Nelson and Emile Smith Rowe, the youngster might just need to find a new home.
