David Raya has named Tottenham Hotspur as the one team he would not sign for.
Back in 2023, Raya was close to joining Spurs, but, much like Eberechi Eze last summer, Arsenal swooped in and got the deal done to sign the Spaniard.
Now, three years on, speaking on The Residency App, David Raya has named Spurs as the one team he would not sign for.
In another world, Raya could’ve been playing for Spurs, but as a bit of a cult hero at Arsenal, he’s now made it very clear how he feels about Tottenham.
It is the kind of comment that will always get attention, especially given the rivalry between the two clubs.
For Arsenal supporters, it reinforces a connection they already feel with their goalkeeper. For Tottenham fans, it is exactly the type of remark that adds extra insult to injury after their recent plight.
When asked which team he would least like to play for, he pointed directly at Arsenal’s biggest rivals. It was a blunt answer, and one that fits perfectly within the culture of North London.
Players are often careful with their words, especially when it comes to rivals. Neutral answers are usually the safe option. Raya chose not to do that, and it says something about how much he gets Arsenal as a club.
Arsenal vs Tottenham is not just another game on the calendar. It defines seasons, shapes narratives, and builds long-term memories for fans. When a player openly leans into that, it strengthens the bond with supporters.
TRUE or FALSE: David Raya is the best goalkeeper in the world…
David Raya is friends with Tottenham star
Interestingly, during this Q and A, Raya admitted that he is indeed friends with one Tottenham star.
The goalkeeper was asked which players he’s friends with from the Spanish national team, and, interestingly, he named Pedro Porro and Marc Cucurella as his close mates with Spain.
Raya has made it clear he doesn’t like Tottenham, but it would appear that club-to-club rivalry takes a backseat when he heads off to international duty as he’s clearly friendly with Porro.
Raya clearly loves the rivalry between Tottenham and Arsenal, but, who knows? Perhaps this fixture won’t be played next season as Spurs are in danger of dropping out of the Premier League entirely.
