Arsenal legend Dennis Bergkamp certainly knew one or two things about success in north London, one of the most talented players to grace the Highbury pitch.

In total, Bergkamp made 422 appearances for Arsenal, scoring 120 goals and providing 112 assists – a player who could do it all.

Playing under Arsene Wenger’s guidance, Bergkamp won three Premier League titles and four FA Cups with Arsenal, before he eventually retired in 2006.

The ‘Non-Flying Dutchman’ will always have a special place in Arsenal folk law, the kind of player who only comes around once a generation.

That being said, Bergkamp has just offered his thoughts on Mikel Arteta’s attempts to return Arsenal to their former glory days.

Dennis Bergkamp thinks Arsenal have an outside chance of winning Premier League

Bergkamp was speaking in an interview with Arsenal and was asked to offer his honest thoughts on Arteta’s project right now.

The former Arsenal man has had various stints as an assistant manager since retiring, and seemed convinced that Arteta was the right personality to take this club forward.

Bergkamp said: “I love the philosophy of Arteta. From day one you could see the little change in the team, you know.

“Of course, a few difficult seasons but the last few seasons were amazing and so close.

“So I really hope that they can stay there, at that level, and maybe the last few months have a little push and surprise everyone, the other two teams, and then get the result that we all want, because I think a club like this deserves another championship.”

Arsenal already know their Jack Wilshere replacement

Arsenal recently lost academy coach Jack Wilshere, who decided to take the next step in his coaching career by joining Norwich City in a more prominent role.

Interestingly, it was reported at the end of last year that Arteta wanted Bergkamp to join Arsenal’s coaching team, potentially as a replacement for Wilshere.

Now the former England international has left, it will be interesting to see whether the Gunners make that move, if reports of their original interest were true.

A true legend in north London, and the kind of player that modern day mavericks like Martin Odegaard and Kai Havertz will be looking to emulate.

That being said, Myles Lewis-Skelly made an interesting point about Odegaard in a recent interview.
