Edu Gaspar’s focus since the summer transfer window ended has been on contracts.

Mikel Arteta signed a new three-year deal at Arsenal on Thursday, and that is a huge boost for the club ahead of the North London Derby.

The Spaniard is the most important man at the Emirates, and securing his long-term future increases the stability at the club.

Now that Arteta’s deal is done, Edu has shifted his focus to another extension, and he wants it to be completed as soon as possible.

Arsenal pushing to extend Gabriel Magalhaes’ contract

Gabriel Magalhaes has been at Arsenal since 2020.

The Brazilian joined the Gunners from Lille in France, and he has been one of the club’s most consistent performers over the last four seasons.

Gabriel is an incredibly important part of Arsenal’s defence, and his performances helped the club concede the least goals in the entire Premier League last term.

Now, Edu is really pushing to secure Gabriel’s future – even though the defender’s current deal does not expire until the summer of 2027.

That’s according to GiveMeSport, who claim that Arsenal have been in talks with Gabriel’s camp since April, but they are now really pushing to get it done after Arteta penned his new deal.

Gabriel currently earns £100,000-a-week at Arsenal, which makes him only the 14th highest-paid player in the squad right now.

With his new contract, should he sign it, we expect the Brazilian to be among the best-paid at the club, and we think he completely deserves it.

Edu needs to start working on two other Arsenal players’ contracts

Edu has done a brilliant job with player contracts at Arsenal in recent years. That is so good to see after years of mismanagement at the Emirates.

Tying down Arteta to a new deal was huge this week, and getting Gabriel to put pen to paper soon will be big as well.

Once that’s done, Edu will have to start talks with two other hugely important Arsenal players – William Saliba and Bukayo Saka.

Both of their current deals expire in the summer of 2027, and the last thing Arsenal would want to do is allow them to enter the final two years of their contracts.

That’s why Edu has to extend their contracts before the end of this season. If he doesn’t, things could get really messy, especially considering that Real Madrid are monitoring Saliba.
