Ex-Arsenal star relegated from the Premier League but could now bank Mikel Arteta millions this summer

Arsenal’s Premier League is fizzling out towards an end as the gap to Liverpool appears insurmountable in the final games ahead.

The Gunners would require a ridiculous swing in form for both teams to have any chance of lifting the title this season, seeming almost impossible.

While Mikel Arteta will be disappointed with that outcome, there is still a certain level of consistency in finishing at the top, which should give some hope for the sustainability of making these title challenges.

It could always be worse for Arsenal, something reinforced by Aaron Ramsdale and the relegation from the Premier League he just suffered with Southampton.

Aaron Ramsdale suffers relegation from Premier League with Southampton

After 31 games in the Premier League, Southampton are officially the first team relegated to the Championship.

It has been an awful season for the Saints on their return to the top tier, having broken several records with their difficult displays.

They are now the earliest team to be relegated in the Premier League, while they are still one point behind the worst record of 11 points in the division – set by Derby County in 2007/08.

Unfortunately for Aaron Ramsdale, he has been in the middle of it as he has been helpless to watch goal after goal fly into the back of the net.

Much of that hasn’t been his fault at all, with Southampton’s overall quality questioned alongside their playing style throughout the campaign.

In all, it means a third relegation of Ramsdale’s career, a difficult record to hold.

However, it seems unlikely that the Englishman will be staying at Southampton heading into the summer.

Aaron Ramsdale set for transfer that could help Arsenal

Arsenal Insider understands that Aaron Ramsdale is set to leave Southampton in the coming summer transfer window.

With his eye on a place in the England World Cup squad for next summer, the goalkeeper may have to plot his next move carefully.

Plenty of suitors may be out there to land him, even despite relegation, having shown his quality when available.

Arsenal have a sell-on clause in Ramsdale’s deal, which means they will be owed some percentage of the transfer fee when he does move.

That could hand Mikel Arteta a nice boost ahead of the summer transfer window, with some extra cash.
