Arsenal don’t currently have too many players out on loan.

Mikel Arteta retained a very big squad in the summer following the addition of eight new signings, and that was the right thing to do.

However, there were a few players who were surplus to requirements and couldn’t be moved on permanently. Five of them were sent out on loan by Andrea Berta.

One of them has now earned some serious praise following his debut.

Arsenal loanee Karl Hein earns praise despite losing 4-0 on his debut

Karl Hein has been on Arsenal’s books since the summer of 2018.

The Estonia international is a really talented player and has shown his abilities in friendlies under Arteta in the past.

When he signed a new contract in 2024, Edu Gaspar described Hein as an ‘exciting prospect’, but first-team opportunities have not come his way.

The 23-year-old joined Werder Bremen on loan in the summer, and on Friday, he got his debut – against the best team in Germany, Bayern Munich.

Vincent Kompany’s side convincingly won the game, scoring four past Hein in a dominant victory.

Conceding that many goals is never a good look for a goalkeeper, but GGFN still named Hein as their ‘Man of the Match’ and even compared him to World Cup winner Manuel Neuer.

They wrote: “Karl Hein! Drafted into the starting 11 following an injury to Mio Backhaus, on loan Arsenal goalkeeper Karl Hein impressed on his debut for Bremen.

“The scoreline could have been a lot worse if it were not for the Estonian.

“Hein made eight saves to keep out Bayern this evening, and even channelled his inner Manuel Neuer when it came to being a sweeper keeper.”

That comparison would’ve made him very happy, as just over a year ago, Hein named Neuer as his favourite-ever goalkeeper.

Does Karl Hein have a future at Arsenal?

Arsenal’s goalkeeping department is currently very strong.

David Raya is the undisputed number one in goal, while Kepa Arrizabalaga, who was signed in the summer, has filled the backup role.

Jack Porter, Alexei Rojas Fedorushchenko, and Tommy Setford are all waiting in the wings as well and dreaming of playing for Arsenal one day.

Hein is a tremendous goalkeeper on his day, but as things stand, there is no place for him in Arsenal’s squad.

However, if he goes on to have a very impressive loan spell at Bremen, he could get a surprise opportunity under Arteta, especially with Cesc Fabregas eyeing a move to sign Kepa in January.
