Arsenal have had a chaotic goalkeeper situation this summer, but one of their options delivered an outstanding display recently.

David Raya and Aaron Ramsdale are yet to join the Arsenal squad on their pre-season tour, and Ramsdale looks likely to depart.

Tommy Setford has joined from Ajax, and another goalkeeper could end up joining, whilst Karl Hein could go out on loan after serving as the third-choice option last season.

Hein was impressive as Arsenal drew with AFC Bournemouth, but is still expected to go on loan to gain the chance to play regularly. Nevertheless, he is growing in profile at Arsenal.

Arsenal youngster Karl Hein names Manuel Neuer as his favourite goalkeeper

Speaking to Arsenal club media, Hein was asked who his favourite goalkeeper is, and he named Bayern Munich legend Manuel Neuer.

“My favourite goalkeeper of all time is Manuel Neuer,” he replied when asked.

Neuer is a player Arsenal fans will be very familiar with, given that the Germany legend has appeared against the Gunners in the Champions League on several occasions.

Neuer is arguably one of the greatest goalkeepers of all time, and he has terrorised Arsenal with Bayern Munich over the years.

Arsenal were knocked out of the Champions League in the quarter-finals against Bayern last season, and Bukayo Saka was controversially denied a penalty in the final minute of the first leg when he went down upon contact with Neuer in the box.

Neuer did make a crucial error which let Arsenal win 2-0 at the Emirates in a group stage game in 2015-16, but also started as Bayern knocked Arsene Wenger’s side out in 2012-13, 2013-14 and the 2016-17 seasons in the round of 16.

It comes as no shock that Hein idolises Neuer given that he has been world-class for over a decade, but Arsenal fans have less fond memories of the veteran.
