Transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano has provided an update on the future of Arsenal starlet Charlie Patino.
Arsenal midfielder Charlie Patino is currently plying his trade with Welsh outfit Swansea in the Championship, and has established himself as a regular starter for the club. So far this season, the 20-year-old Hale End academy product has made 19 appearances in the second tier, chipping in with three goals and four assists.
Patino has also already featured at first team level for the Gunners. Mikel Arteta handed the youngster his debut in December 2021, when Patino was also able to grab a goal in an EFL Cup clash against Sunderland.
Since then, though, he has made just one more senior appearance for the north London club, and has subsequently spent time on loan with Blackpool in the Championship, before joining the Swans in the most recent summer transfer window.
The England under-21 international has vast potential, and given he has been on the books with the club since the age of 11, plenty of Arsenal fans would love to see him make the grade at the Emirates Stadium.
However, Patino’s future is not certain. He was recently linked with a move to Serie A giants Juventus. On top of that, the likes of Declan Rice, Martin Odegaard, Kai Havertz, and Emile Smith Rowe, amongst others, are currently blocking his path to regular first team football at Arsenal.

Fabrizio Romano reveals Arsenal plan for Charlie Patino
In response to this speculation, Fabrizio Romano has now given an insight into what the future might hold for Patino. The reporter stated on X, “there’s nothing now between Juventus and Arsenal for Charlie Patino deal despite recent links with move to Italian club in January. Patino’s future will be discussed again by #AFC and player side in 2024.”
Arsenal clearly aren’t ready to give up on Patino yet, and to be frank, the player is not yet ready to be playing regularly for a team such as Juventus or Arsenal. Whilst he has certainly caught the eye at Swansea, his full focus still needs to be on making the most of his loan spell throughout the second half of the campaign. If he can take his game to the next level, on a consistent basis, over the coming months then he could well work his way into Arteta’s plans for next season.
There is a good chance that a pathway into the Arsenal first team could open up for Patino this summer. The likes of Thomas Partey, Jorginho, and Mohamed Elneny are all in the twilight years of their careers and could be moved on.
