Forget Martin Zubimendi, pundit says another star is Arsenal’s most under-appreciated player

Robbie Mustoe has highlighted a player he believes is under-appreciated at Arsenal.

Mikel Arteta has an exceptional squad at his disposal that has led the Gunners to establishing a four point lead at the summit of the Premier League table after eleven matches.

Martin Zubimendi has been exceptional since his arrival in the summer from Real Sociedad, with the Spaniard’s impressive work arguably going somewhat under the radar.

However, Mustoe has chosen to single out a different Arsenal player who he believes doesn’t quite get the recognition that he deserves.

Robbie Mustoe says Leandro Trossard is under-appreciated

Leandro Trossard was linked with a move away from Arsenal in the summer.

However, the Gunners ultimately opted to keep the Belgian, and offered him a new contract on significantly improved terms.

This decision from the Emirates hierarchy was met with backlash from the North London club’s supporters, but it has so far been justified.

Trossard has worked his way back into Arteta’s team, and has registered eight goal contributions this season, more than anyone else in Arsenal’s squad.

After thumping home a stunning goal at the Stadium of Light on Saturday evening, Mustoe was full of praise for the 30-year-old, who he believes is ‘under-appreciated’.

“Well, I’m sure we’ve had him [Trossard] before, and he’s just a little favourite of mine, Rob,” Mustoe said on the 2 Robbies Podcast.

“And why I give him an under-appreciated performer is that he’s always there for Arsenal, he’s always there, he’s always available for his manager, he’s always wanting the ball, he’s always looking to be creative.

“If you watch everything that Trossard does, everything he does, he tries to play something forward, he always looks forward first.

“We’re understanding that he’s taken on more of a leadership role in this team. He is such a reliable, consistent performer. Different players have come into this front line, Rob, and will challenge his position.

“[Gabriel] Martinelli was there, he came in, he’s been there more time, but when he [Trossard} comes inside and drills that ball into the top top corner, I’m like, this guy, he’s my under-appreciated performer again, Trossard.”

Leandro Trossard’s fitness record is unbelievable

If there’s one thing that Trossard is certainly under-appreciated for, it’s his availability.

Arsenal suffered from an injury crisis last season, and have arguably had another one in the last few weeks of this term.

However, the Belgium international has consistently been fit. He was the only senior outfield player in the Gunners’ squad who didn’t suffer a single injury last campaign, and he’s only had one minor niggle this time around.

In fact, Trossard hasn’t missed a competitive fixture for Arsenal since joining from Brighton in January 2023. The injury that saw him miss a bit of pre-season in July and August didn’t prevent him from featuring in the league, as he was back on the bench for the opening game against Manchester United.

Availability is the best ability, and Trossard is the most consistently available player in the Arsenal squad.
