There’s been a bit of a stir at Arsenal this week around the captaincy situation at the Emirates.

Indeed, Tony Adams called for Declan Rice to be made Arsenal captain this week, while Mikel Arteta continued to back Martin Odegaard as his skipper.

There’s been a lot of chat at Arsenal about who the leaders are within the group.

Declan Rice is a great leader, but according to Tony Cascarino, speaking on The Game Football Podcast, there’s another player at Arsenal who plays as though he is the captain.

Gabriel is like a captain at Arsenal

Cascarino spoke about Gabriel and how important he is to this Arsenal team.

The pundit says that Gabriel is a massive player for Arsenal, claiming that he is a true leader who is almost like another captain on the pitch for the Gunners.

“Well, I think, Gabriel’s big. They need him back for Arsenal because he’s big,” Cascarino said.

“I think Gabriel is massive for them because I just think he’s that type of leader, captain. I know he’s not the captain, but he performs like one.”

Antonio Rudiger’s past comments on Gabriel

Cascarino says Gabriel is a real leader at Arsenal, and he’s not the only person to share this opinion.

Indeed, Antonio Rudiger has previously praised Gabriel as a leader too, noting that the centre-back is aggressive at the back and an amazing player.

“I like Gabriel from Arsenal as well,” Rudiger said.

“If you see Arsenal, like the two centre-backs are playing together, they’ve been doing it for two years now. They’re doing an amazing job, like the transformation from Arsenal, like that was a bit before and now it’s like those two are the pillars of it.

“You have Gabriel, the more aggressive leader, and Saliba is like this brother plays so clean! He looks like a silent leader.”

Arsenal are lucky to have so many players who are great leaders, and while only one player can wear the armband, the Gunners have numerous captains in this squad.
