Former Liverpool player says Arsenal could win the league because of potential Arne Slot problem

Former Liverpool player Dean Saunders has shared his opinion that Arsenal can win the Premier League title.

It’s far too early to talk about the Premier League title race, but the narrative isn’t going anywhere. 

As far as Arsenal are concerned, now is the time to deliver the title, having finished the previous three seasons in second place. 

There’s mild pressure on Mikel Arteta to win silverware, and only four games into the new season, the Arsenal manager has been backed to do just that.

Mohamed Salah made a comment about Arsenal’s title chances, referencing how long Arteta has had to gel with his players. 

The statement wasn’t entirely accurate, as the Arsenal squad has changed vastly since the boss took charge, particularly this summer, which is the same thing that’s happening at Liverpool. 

Speaking on talkSPORT, pundit Dean Saunders explained why he thinks multiple changes to the squad could actually come back to haunt the Reds.

“I keep saying, Liverpool only lost two games last season, so it’s going to be difficult to get in front of them. I’ve got a feeling they [Arsenal] might do it,” Saunders said.

“Only because Liverpool have got that many new players, surely they can’t just slot in perfectly without defeats.

“Sometimes, the new players you’re trying that hard to keep your head above water, you forget about the team.”

Saunders, who made 61 appearances for Liverpool during his playing days, then shared his belief that Arsenal already look ‘more settled’ than Arne Slot’s squad.

“Frimpong, Kerkez, they’ve got to fit in. I think Arsenal are a more settled outfit, and now they’ve made some good signings, I think they could do it.”

Milos Kerkez has struggled since joining Liverpool, as has Florian Wirtz, who is yet to make an impact in the Premier League. 

Arsenal’s new arrivals have slotted in more seamlessly, with Noni Madueke, Eberechi Eze, Cristhian Mosquera, Viktor Gyokeres and Martin Zubimendi already impressing. 

That doesn’t mean to say that Liverpool’s new arrivals won’t turn things around, considering it’s still so early into the season, but team chemistry doesn’t happen overnight.

Arsenal seem to have a good balance and an exceptionally strong amount of squad depth, two things that could just give the Gunners the upper hand in the title race.

A lot can change over the course of a season, as Arsenal know too well, but the early signs are certainly encouraging.
