Arsenal fans called out Gary Neville for his stark change in opinion regarding how the Gunners celebrate victories and goals.

Mikel Arteta will know how close his squad are to lifting the Premier League title after Arsenal beat Everton 2-0 at the Emirates.

It was a remarkable end to a very tough game for the Gunners, with the win earned thanks to late goals from Viktor Gyokeres and Max Dowman.

Like many others, Gary Neville applauded Dowman after the Everton victory, but that wasn’t the only thing the Sky Sports pundit commented on post-match.

The scenes at full-time at the Emirates were incredible as the entire substitutes bench ran over to celebrate Dowman’s goal, something Neville surprisingly loved.

Which former Arsenal player do you see Max Dowman following the path of?

Gary Neville inconsistency spotted after Arsenal celebration remark following Max Dowman’s goal vs Everton

Speaking on the Gary Neville Podcast after the weekend’s action on matchday 30, Neville dubbed Dowman’s goal ‘really special’.

“Really special that, special in a number of ways, one, the celebration, just the players on the pitch, you know, that’s how football should be.”

Neville’s comment was spot on, but that’s exactly why Gooners noticed the inconsistency of the pundit’s opinions on how Arsenal celebrate.

After Arsenal beat Liverpool in 2024, Neville infamously criticised the Gunners for celebrating at full-time, going as far as to call Arteta’s side immature.

“I’ve gone past the idea of having a go at teams for celebrating,” he ironically opened his statement on Sky Sports that day, before adding:

“I just still feel there’s a little bit of immaturity in the celebration, to me it felt like relief that they weren’t eight points behind.”

If you could make one pundit stop talking about Arsenal, who would you choose and why?

That instance happened two years ago, but another example occurred only three weeks ago when Arsenal beat Tottenham in the North London Derby.

When commentating for Sky Sports on Gyokeres’ goal, Neville bizarrely said:

“They don’t want to be over celebrating, get back! Concentrate on your job.”

It was a very peculiar comment when considering the context, as Arsenal retook the lead away to their biggest rivals in a must-win game in the title and relegation race.

There has since been a huge twist in Neville’s opinion, saying that the celebrations after Dowman’s goal are ‘how football should be’.

Arsenal fans noticed the inconsistencies and called the pundit out on social media.

It’s not a great look for Neville, but Arsenal fans won’t be surprised, as the media have been pushing bizarre narratives against the Gunners all season.
