Gary Neville says there’s something ‘interesting’ about the title race that Arsenal won’t want

Gary Neville believes that there’s something ‘interesting’ about how the Premier League title race is shaping up and Arsenal won’t be happy about it.

Mikel Arteta’s team were held to a disappointing draw by Sunderland over the weekend, with Brian Brobbey’s late equaliser preventing the Gunners from taking all three points away from Wearside.

Meanwhile, Manchester City cruised past Liverpool at the Etihad, reducing the points gap between Guardiola’s side and the North Londoners to just four.

Arsenal have a daunting set of fixtures to come after the international break, and Arteta’s men subsequently find themselves under immense pressure all of a sudden.

Gary Neville says it will be ‘interesting’ to see what happens with Man City in the title race

It was never going to be an easy ride to the Premier League title for Arsenal.

As much as it had begun to look like they could draw several points clear of their competitors, there were always going to be dips in the road and one of Liverpool or City was always going to click into gear.

City appear to be the side that will now push the Gunners for the silverware, led by a rampant Erling Haaland.

While Guardiola’s team are far from perfect, they have possibly the best player in the world at the moment and they are maximising what they can elicit from him.

Speaking on the Gary Neville Podcast, the pundit claimed that it’ll be ‘interesting’ to see what happens with City, while Arsenal won’t be happy that it’s the Manchester club that are chasing them down.

“This is going to be interesting in this next six months of what happens with City,” he said.

“I would say there’s still quite a lot of work to do to convince me that they’re going to win a title. I think Arsenal are the better team, but they’re the one team that I wouldn’t want, and the one manager that I wouldn’t want, on my shoulder going in down back down the back straight.”

How do Arsenal and Man City’s numbers compare?

Wayne Rooney still thinks Arsenal will win the title, and the former Manchester United striker is probably right to back the Gunners.

As much as this weekend’s results feel like they could be a turning point, Arteta’s side’s metrics are still vastly superior to their north-west counterparts.

City marginally usurp Arsenal in a few attacking metrics, but the Gunners are still significantly better than the Citizens defensively.

Conceding fewer goals, fewer expected goals, fewer shots and allowing their opponents in their box less, the North London team are more stable at the back, and this could quite easily prove to be the difference.

Arsenal also have several players still to return from injury in their forward line, so could easily still go up a level offensively, while City aren’t likely to improve in this aspect.
