Gary Neville thinks he knows how many goals Viktor Gyokeres will score for Arsenal this season

After Viktor Gyokeres netted his third goal of the Premier League season, Gary Neville predicted how far the Arsenal striker could go.

Arsenal’s 3-0 win over Nottingham Forest saw the Swede return to the scoresheet, netting his third goal in only four Premier League games.

Gyokeres’ shot conversion rate is giving his doubters a lot to answer for, converting 42% of the shots he’s taken in the Premier League.

It makes criticism from pundits look rather silly, one of whom is Gary Neville, who questioned Gyokeres’ composure on matchday two.

Neville is one of many pundits who might be left red-faced by the end of the season because of what Gyokeres is showing he can do.

Reacting to the win over Forest, the Sky Sports pundit predicted that while he thinks the striker will struggle against bigger teams, he will score a lot of goals.

“I think that the best defenders might handle him, and we’ll see, but I think he’ll beat up smaller teams for Arsenal,” he said on The Gary Neville Podcast. 

“That’s not a bad thing. Scoring loads of goals and getting 20 goals this season, which he could do, doesn’t necessarily have to be against the big teams.”

Neville thinks Gyokeres could be the first Arsenal player to hit 20 Premier League goals since Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

It’s interesting, as Micah Richards thinks Gyokeres will score 21, with the consensus being that the 27-year-old will have a free-scoring campaign.

Despite the ridiculous criticism Gyokeres has received since joining Arsenal, it’s no surprise that pundits think the striker will score a lot of goals.

Since the start of the 2022/23 campaign, the Sweden international has scored an eye-watering 89 league goals, playing in the Championship and the Liga Portugal.

The level in the Premier League is entirely different, as Arsenal are being reminded of constantly, but with three goals in four games, it’s difficult for Gyokeres to have had a better start.

Arsenal would love for their summer signing to hit over 20 goals in the Premier League this season, which will surely happen if his form continues.
