‘He will be great’… Ben White names the one Arsenal player he thinks will become a manager

Over the past few transfer windows, Edu Gaspar and Mikel Arteta began to recruit slightly differently at Arsenal.

As well as signing younger players with room to improve in the future, Arsenal have also opted to bring in one or two more experienced players.

Jorginho and Leandro Trossard are good examples in that regard, as well as the recent recruitment of Mikel Merino.

Arteta evidently has some investment in the age-old saying, “you can’t win anything with kids.”

Arsenal’s squad might still be inexperienced in terms of winning titles as a unit, but they do have some individuals who know how to deliver.

Ben White has no interest in coaching but thinks Jorginho is perfect

Of course, it therefore wouldn’t be too much of a surprise if some of those players ended up following a similar path to Arteta after their career, immediately seeking a route into coaching.

Arteta left Arsenal as a player in 2016, and then returned as their manager just three years later.

That being said, when speaking in a recent interview, Ben White explained that he wasn’t interested in taking a similar route himself, but thought Jorginho was perfect for that transition.

Asked if he’ll go into coaching, White said: “No, I’m not at all interested in that, and I can’t really see that ever changing.

“I love playing, I love everything about being a footballer, but I don’t think I’ll be motivated to go into that. I can’t see myself telling other people how to play.

“It’s not for me, but I can see Jorginho doing that in future. He’s just done everything in the game hasn’t he?

“I can’t think there is anyone better to learn from than him, he will be great.”

Mikel Arteta has already backed Jorginho to become a manager

Speaking last year, Arteta admitted that Jorginho’s understanding of the game is ‘really impressive’.

The Arsenal manager backed Jorginho to take a similar route to himself, and who knows, maybe he could even end up joining Arteta’s coaching team in north London one day.

Arteta said: “When he’s on the bench, he’s like another coach. Every time I look behind he is there and it is great that he is living the game.

“If he wants to [be a manager], he has every quality to do so. He’s one of the most intelligent players that I have coached.

“The detail he can go into to understand what is happening live, in the game, how to correct it, and how he can attract the attention of his teammates to listen to him and do what he is telling them to do, it’s really impressive.”
